Newbie question 1 / ?

Lots of fresh fuel ? , have you got a spark ? , is the battery fully charged ? , are the spark plugs clean ? -not sooted up ? . are the plug leads good ? So many factors to consider - also many threads on this subject to trawl through . If and when you get it started , please let the forum know , thanks . |
Fuel pump circuit is easy to test, and there are 3 major components in that circuit that can stop fuel from entering the combustiin chamber: fuel pump, fuel pump relay, and fuel injector resistor pack. To test if fuel is reaching the fuel rail, grab a paper clip and pop the hood. Right behind the battery next to the fuse block is a little rectangle box that says "Diagnostics" on the lid. Go ahead and take the lid off and look at the underside, there should be a little label that tells you the name of each of the 15 pins in tbat box. Locate the 2 pins labeled B+ (for battery positive) and FP (for fuel pump) and place your paperclip in both of them, so that it functions as a jumper wire. Now, when you hop in the car and turn the key to on, you should hear fuel rushing through the fuel rail on the engine. If you do, the fuel pump and relay are good. If you do not hear anything, grab a multimeter and the online wiring diagram and start by testing the fuel pump relay and fuel pump.
Also, check for engine diagnostic codes. You can take that same paperclip and place it between pins TE1 and E1 in the diagnostics box. When you turn the key on, the CEL (chdck engine light) will flash a number of times to indicate a stored trouble code. There is a thread in the MKIII Supra FAQ forum that explains how to check codes further. |
fuel pump
Thanks much...looks like coil cover was off recently as well...will let you know how i make out...think i'll drop tank and drain fuel anyway...at least 5 yrs old.

If you're just looking to drain the fuel, there is a plug on the bottom of the tank that you can remove with a 3/8 drive ratchet.
If you're looking to drop it to clean it out, you may want to consider doing that fuel pump anyway. If it was my project, I'd spend the money on a quality unit just because it is likely the stock pump in the tank and I would not want to have to repeat the whole process in the future. Before you do anything, try starting it and check the codes and report back here so we can help with any other issues it may have. |
fuel pump
Have a walbro coming in..will do fuel filter as well

What's missing?
Oookay...did fuel pump jumper..nada..gas smells horrible anyway so its a drain tank and fuel pump replacement anyhoo..tank plug is really tight..longer ratchet?////also missing a relay maybe..drivers side between shock tower and diag box. There is a yellow circular plug,a grey oval plug and a vacuum/emissions line open...manual on the way soon but any info apreeciated.

How many pins in the circular plug? Could be the fuel injector resistor pack
