A3040E removal
I need to know why I've been told to disconnect the steering gear housing and tie rod ends when removing the A3040E tranny from my mx83? I removed the W58 without disconnecting any steering parts. Will the suspension parts get messed up when I drop the tranny?
Sorry the tranny code is A304e not A3040E sorry I think i figured out somewhat of a reason why the repair manual says to remove the steering gear housing when removing the tranny. I figure the newer models have more steering components and without disconnecting them it could damage them when the motor moves up and down from tranny removal b/c of the flexibility of the motor mounts. (anybody can correct me if I'm wrong so feel fee to) maybe even to give more flexibility for the motor to move up and down for easier access and removal. |
MX83... that's a Cressida, right?
I removed the A340e from my MA70 without any steering component removal and that created no problems. Perhaps in the MX83 the steering linkage is closer to the engine, and after removing the tranny there is the potential for the engine to contact the steering components? I would think if that were the case supporting the engine would be better advice. |
Yes it's an 89 cressida. That's what i was going to do is just jack up the engine during removal.
I'm actually using the mk3 supra Haynes repair manual for the Cressida tranny removal. I figured the steps would almost be identical. It does say remove the steering gear housing for the supra but I don't see the point. I also removed the w58 from my ma70 without removing the steering gear housing but it's just a parts car so I'm not going to be driving it and I didn't know if by not removing the steering parts if it would have any repercussions. i just didn't want to mess up the steering.. |
I even contacted Haynes and they have been everything but useful.

Does anybody on here own a Cressida? mx73, mx83 or whatever
need some advice with the w58 swap in auto 89 cressida |
I got the auto tranny out of the cressida and the w58 went right in its place, no problem. The front shaft carrier bearings probably should be switched over from the auto shaft to the ma70 front shaft, but instead I shimmed it with a bunch of washers and it works just as good.

I got the w58 into the 89 Cressida. And now there is no fuel getting to the fuel rail, or fuel filter; what could possibly stop the fuel from not getting to the filter? The pump is hooked up correctly all the fuel lines are hooked up but could one fuel line be mixed up and causing the car not to get fuel and start???????:roflwtf::dunno:

I thought this was a forum where ppl help and give advice...?
I have to read books and do research and take it to a mechanic to get it fixed. THis forum hasnt helped me in over a year. where have the helpers been? |
I myself would chime in more frequently if I had some personal experience or knowledge with the problems, but lately most of the issues I've read on here I can't really provide any definite help, so I just don't comment.
I'm not sure where everyone else Is though, this forum has really slowed down in traffic over the past year or so... |
