engines dropping when throttle depresses! help!
hey im having sort of a problem. I turn my car over and it starts nearly fine ( the engine jumps a couple times then starts) and it idles pretty normal at first. When the throttle depresses, the rpms die down to almost stalling the vehicle, and then jump back up and revs the engine. If I let it idle for a long time it slowly starts loosing idle speed.
Does anyone have a similar problem or an answer to what could be causing this? thank you |
Check for codes first.

Sounds like it could be your TPS, but not positive on that.

sounds like timing belt..
If that all fails, I will add these for you to check also...
becuse it sounds to me like it could be a timing belt issue? when you said. .>>>> ****( the engine jumps a couple times then starts) *** whens the last time the timing belt has been changed? mayby it jumped a tooth or two??? ive seen that many times. My lower crank pully broke the collar that keeps the belt centered on the gear, so that let the belt ride off the front and shredd, luckely the bhg happened and when i pulled the cover off the belt was only 1/4 wide. but had not jumped yet.. hahahha It also could be any number of things like maybe a plugged catolitic converter? air or fuel filter plugged? bad spark? water in your tank? but most of these give some warning first, thats why id check the timing belt. |
Perhaps one (or more) spark plugs are fouled, had that problem last week, went to accelerate, and instead of going faster, the car went slower :( Pulled the plugs and I guess they hadn't been changed in forever (I recently acquired the car) - all 6 were fouled out.
