Plastic cover on rear window trim
I have three Supras, an '85, an '88 and a '91. The two MK III's have a plastic coating on the rear window trim. The plastic has separated in places and is quite unsightly. I have asked at several body shops about removing the trim to remove the remaining plastic and then painting the trim. However no one could determine how to remove the trim and suggested leaving it in place to do the job. Surely someone on this forum has had or is having this problem. I will appreciated information leading to a solution.

Are you speaking of the trim on the hatch glass? If so, the bottom piece is held on by a few bolts and nuts which can be accessed under the interior panel piece along the bottom-inside of the hatch. The sides are just pressed into place on a rail running beside the glass. The top trim piece is also just pressed into place. So none of it is really difficult to remove and reset.
BTW, the bottom piece is notorious for being a source of leaking water into the hatch area. Each bolt/nut set holding the trim on has a neoprene washer to keep water out, but over time the washer degrades to dust and will need to be replaced, or another method used to seal the bolt holes from water. |
