do Radiators fan, shroud, swap

i have an 1988 turbo 7mgte can you swap the fan, shroud, from a 89 turbo? i see that there is 2 aux fans and fan has more blades anybody know?

There was a big discussion (on SM?)on the # of fan blades from year to year. 10 seems to be the desired fan. I believe you can use the newer year setup on yours. The little fans on mine come on when a/c is on. You could easily wire up a relay for each fan and a temp sensor kit for them. I also ran a manual over-ride switch inside to have more cool-down control.

yea im gonna swap the 89+ fans off the radiator on to mine
and ya 10 blade is the best one :)

mine only has one fan is that normal?

mrnickleye 10-24-2005 06:52 AM

No. There was/is a fan and clutch on the water pump, and one or two small electric ones on back side for a/c cooling. Turbos had another electric one out in front.

If you are n/a, and don't run/have a/c, then one 'good working' one will be ok. Turbo without a/c?? I'd ad an electric for the intercooler.

my upgraded cooling setup should be done by this weekend, god willing. im putting in an all aluminum 3in thick radiator with a single 16in electric fan. its designed for big block domestic cars, so i know i'll never have to worry about it ever.

yeah the guy who had my car before me decided to put an eletric fan that is crap! the two electric fans (one for condensor, and whaterver the other one is on the engine side) flow more air that the "bigger" fan. The factory setup was 270.00 dollars, shroud, fan, clips from toyota better safe than sorry.

dont mean to hijack my own topic but how does a intercooler work? does it get hot like the radator?:dunno:

kewlcoconut 10-26-2005 09:19 AM

intercoolers cool the warm air that comes from the turbo before it goes into the engine. hot air expands, so the cooler air is more dense. if you had your turbo at say 10psi, the intercooler would put out 10psi of cooler air. denser the air, more air molecules and better performance. i dont know much on this stuff.....still learning. but thats all i can tell you :)
