ARP Studs or Bolts ??
I was looking for an HKS replacement headgasket on suprastore.com and was also browsing for ARP Head Studs. There are both Head Studs and Head Bolts. I was also looking at a helpful resource on BHG repair and it seems as though he only uses the ARP Head Bolts.
I was wondering which application would I use? Do I use both? What's the deal? |
they say studs are better because they apply just downforce and not a rotational force to the stud or head, when torqing for better clamp down force? im sure ARP or someone here can explain it better than me though...

studs are the way to go

Is there any clearance problems at the rear of the head and the firewall with studs? When you pull the head off and put it back on I mean. Just curious.

i bet there is !
i used bolts last time .. and if i were to do it again i'd go for studs always thinking Russ |
i used the arp bolts for my head when i used to own the 7m...i dint have it for long so im not sure...i ahve teh bolts on my 1jz right now and theyre pretty good...apparently studs seems to be popular for the 7m...

The price difference between the two is insignificant, with the studs being only $10-$15 more. As far as installation goes, how do they differ? Are there special tools required to install studs? What are the main differences between the two (other than torque settings)?
I'm leaning more towards bolts, because I'm thinking they're gonna be easier to install. |
bolts are easier to install...but honestly...since i have installed both, id say studs are teh way to go since they would be a little more reliable...but it really doesnt matter...if you do it right...the installation that is...everything should come out ok...hopefully
