OK back to the question, Should I rebuild my Turbo? Is there a way I can check and see if its leaking before installing it? Its a bitch to get on the engine with the engine out and even worse when its in the car. The turbo seems pretty solid but I dont want to have to pull it back out... is it hard to rebuild?

there are some posts on sm that are step by step on how to rebuild them, seems pretty strait forward if its rebuildable.. but i would send mine out so it can be properly set up and balanced.

best way to tell if its bad is describing the smoke when you run it.. idle and deceleration.. or oil in the ic like you described..

im sure someone else tell ya about the rebuild..

What do you think of the Less than $100 turbo rebuild kits on ebay?

joel w 12-19-2005 05:47 AM

id say it came down 50$ in 4 months. thats a good price.. worth a shot...

my second turbo, the bearing siezed to the impeller shaft from overspin, and then that siezed bearing ate into the housing, so the housing had to be machined to accept the oversized bearings..

Also that kit doesnt have any of the gaskets for like the oil lines and other attachments, am i gonna have to make those too? im already having to make a few others that didnt come in the gasket kit that I bought.

ohh, i thought it had gaskets, maybe a different seller. i reused my old oil line gaskets, no leaks.. probably a good idea to make them or go to a dealer and get them..

Well pulled it apart.... was leaking oil like I suspected pretty badly too. the bearings were really worn out too. I ordered that cheap rebuild kit. lets hope it lasts....

Do you think Dupli Colors 1200 degree Ceramic paint will hold up to the heat on the manifold and turbo?

joel w 12-21-2005 09:47 PM

i have heard of people using it, but not sure what success it has, i though it had to be baked on at 400 degress, but i guess it will when you start it up..

also i hear VHT 1500 paint is ok.
