I'm about to remove the engine from my '90 supra the shop manual tells me to remove the transmission with the engine, but i dont want to, so can i just remove the engine and just leave the tranny in the car???
Thanks, Dan

Coming out is fairly simple. Going back in is where the 'fun' begins. I've done both methods. I would pull trans/eng together, as you can put it all together, then slip it in.

well engine is out..... Im so glad I did pull it, this is one nasty SOB, The rod bearings where really bad worn and the sludge and rust in the engine is horrible. We found another gasket leak and 3 pistons had rings so gummed up that they were stuck and its one PITA to get them out....

I have found that after getting at those damn bolts up high on engine/trans, that it is much easier to pull the engine separately. That is one heavy beast with both. You have to have a good hoist for that. The floor kind will almost flip up on you if you don't have it set up just right while trying to pull both. The overhead lift is best for pulling both, but if the trans doesn't need to come out then just pull the engine.
