Question Door Locking Problems, SCREEEEEEEECCCHHH

I'm having a couple more problems with the '90 turbo I just got
1. The drivers side door lock does not lock or unlock from the outside- to lock my car I have to flip the locking switch from the inside while the door's closed... and then lock the passenger door from the outside w/ key. Kindof a long process and a BIG pain in the ass. (I have just been leaving it unlocked at my hi school- nothin in there anyone would want) Do you guys have any suggestions for replacing the lock on the drivers side door, and where I can find one? (junk yard? ebay?) By the way- Is it a difficult process to install a new electric locking system in my car with a keyless entry system?

2. The second and probably bigger problem- When driving the supra (auto trans.) and the engine revvs to around 4k RPM and higher I get this awful high pitched screeching sound... kinda loud... thats almost like fingernails on a chaulkboard. I'm sure it needs some routine maintenance (fluids and whatnot) but what could be causing this? I thought it might have something to do with the turbo- and plus the big fan thing needs a casing put on it or something cuz it's pretty loud too (can always be cured by some nice n loud 3'' pipes to hide the noise)... but Im not sure. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

BTW sry bout the long entry

How's your oil? I heard of a case once where they had that sound going ~3k RPMs on the highway and they had just burned off too much oil through a slit in a hose.

first the lock, pull your door panel apart and lube and manually work the lock mechanism inside the door, it will probably loosen up just fine,

second the screetch.. check your belts, alt, water pump, power steering, if there loose, tighten them up and try it?

My vote is for the belts too. Sounds like alternator, but could be any.

Just like joel said;

Locks, open up the door panel and lube them. also check your ALARM ARM, little piece of plastic that connects the lock tumbler to your alarm system. If its borken off, as most are, then the lock won't arm or disarm the alarm. Also while your in there i would pull the window and lubricatethe choice points on the regulator arm and the channel that the windows guide travels in. REMOVE THE OLD GREASE FIRST. Then relube with Moly GP grease.

Squeel. Does it come on when you punch it? Or just over 3000. Eitherway, if you just bought the car change EVERY fluid(its just a good idea) Oil, Rear Diff, Tranny, Coolant, Power steering, brake. I like Redline diff and tranny oil myself, i'm a manual though. They do make good ATF from what i hear... but thats besides the point, back to your squeel. Change all belts. Tighten belts properly, an easy rule of thumb is for every foot of belt between pulleys 3/4" of play is acceptable. 6" of belt is 3/8" and so on. Then ride it around. If its still making the noise come back. Its probably not your turbo, if it was your turbo it would make this sound (boosting noise) whheeeeeEEEEEE PPLLLIIIAAANNGGG and you'd see a shit load of smoke come from the hood as the floating spindle siezed cause it would be an oil flow issue. Plus you'd have alot of vibration. Its not the fan, maybe the fan clutch but usually thats alot different of a noise. The clowling doesn't reduce sound.

im guessing that the screach is from a belt as well. my supra was doing that a few months ago. when i started it up it would scream like crazy. i just had to tighten up the fan belt.

I guess i didn't really realize how bad it was until today when i was lookin at it with a couple friends with the hood up. When you drive it hard or just revv it past 3.5k, the thing rips out this extremely loud, ear-splitting screech- almost like someone's peelin out shreddin rubber... only 100x louder and 100x higher-pitched. I had it in my garage and i literally had to cover my ears cuz it was so loud! (and im like deaf already from countless concerts and shows) Im thinkin its a lot worse than i thought. K so where it this fan belt? i see the big fan, i see the alternator belt and another belt below that... but i dont know where the fan belt is. (feel free to call me a n00b) And also- i dont know how long this has been this way since i just got it... could this have caused permanent damage?

Oh BTW- what kinda engine oil would you guys recommend? I live up in minneapolis, MN so in bout a month its gunna be a deep freeze up here till like april. I dont think im gunna do a hell of a lot of driving during winter-time tho- snows a bitch here. Plus ive got about 75k miles on it...

you guys rock by the way, thanks for the help!

hmmm i cant remember the oil, but there are certain oils now that are made for cold winters and such. i live in vancouver BC, so the winters arent that harsh up here. but i pay for the expensive stuff. i always use mobil 1 oil. twice as much as anything else, but worth it.

the fan belt is the same belt that runs the altinator, can you pinpoint the orgin of the noise at all?

any loose belts?
