On the rings i mean bad as in a broken piston ring or excessivly warn with alot of blow by or low compression even..
and on bearings, bad as in a spun bearing, or rod knock opposite of good!! hehehe |

Well when the word bad is used like that, then it sounds like not good. Problems like that are usually a worn out engine. Low oil caused spun bearing due to hard seals and oil loss. Broken rings mostly just fatigue along with heat and maybe even detonation.
Either way, engine rebuild time and with proper care and only occasional runs up to 6500 rpms and 140 mph it should last another 200 thousand miles. Russ |

ya im not having any issues yet, just wondering if you have experienced any of these problems yourself, , trying to see how often they occure, in what situations?? im upgrading to full 3" dp w/catless sytem here ina few days and im wondering how close i am to pushing the limits of the stock block on hp. I should be close to 350+- hp or so..
just for my own twisted amusement wondering how tuff these 7mgte's are stock, at what point does it break.rings, pistons, bearings,. i see these vids of guys hitting and holding rev limiter before launching off the line. amazed they hold together this well. amazed mine is still strong after all my abuse and milage.... also, russ, i took your advise and helicoiled all 7 exhaust studs yesterday, all but 2 were pulling there threads out of the head. worked like a champ, tyty |

You are welcome. It seems that Toyota builds some very strong stuff, but you pay the price looking for aftermarket stuff because they are expensive. I think somewhere lately people have been posting horsepower ratings with the type engine, but it seems I have heard at least 500 reliable horses and maybe more with the 7M block.
The engine just has to built with a lot of care to make sure you don't blow a head gasket, but that is true with any engine looking at the kind of hp or more. These engines come stock with forged cranks and very tough and well built blocks. The pistons and rods are what needs to be changed with the high end hp. The heads seem to be up to it and with the correct fuel mixture and a good cooling system the high horsepower should be reliable too. Do a search to find what can be had horsepower wise and what mods were done. Russ |

Did you helicoil the exhaust studs because of all the boost your running? Were they pulling out or what?

i had 2 that felt like they stripped when i put it together few yrs ago and recently it seemed to have loosened up and when i tried to tighten up the others puled the threads, boost probly helped shake em loose ya but i think it would done either way.
