People Who Have Pulled Heads. Question?
For the people that have actually pulled heads can you evaluate this write-up? Your thoughts? Add to it any useful information that you know will make the process easier.

from what i read its pretty accurate...though im not sure if thats the right sequence for torqueing the bolts...otherwise...the general steps are pretty much correct...there are some specific differences...skimmed most of it.. just probably read the first part

i actually read some of it here and there...felt kind of guilty not giving you a real straight answer...its a very good guide coming from someone that isnt a mechanic...as i said before..its pretty accurate...you can follow it since he does give it step by step with the occasional picture here and there, def a good link for everyone that owns a mk3 supra

Well I've got 2 manuals, a Chiltons and a Factory. I've never tackled an issue this big before and I want to get prepared. Thanks for the reply. Anyone else?

tip
get a box of sandwich bags and a sharpie ink pen and keep all the nuts bolts sperate and labled, place everything in a row down a wall on disassemble to make it easier to reassemble, waterpump bolts, fan bolts, valve cover bolts. turbo 90 elbow nuts ext..ext.

yea label everything....you dont want to lose or misplace anything...cause when you do it will drive you nuts...good advice

You know, there is nothing like actual experience in doing something like this. Keeping everything sorted in bags is one of the best ideas out there. Keep a clean and organized work area. Betweent the manuals and the people here you can't get much better advice, but there is nothing like having someone there who can help or lend a helping hand when disassembling and reassembling.
Of course you can't get experience unless you try something first. Tackling a head is a pretty complicated start but not impossible. Take pictures, videos and have plenty of rags. Drain everythingon the engine, water and oil. Don't disconnect the a/c hoses, nor the power steering pump hoses. You are going to need jack stands, a jack and a nice flat surface to work on, preferrably out of the weather as this will be a several week project. Again, try to find someone who has some good engine experience. Adjusting the valves is not one for the timid, but can be quite easy once a few have been done. There will be more comments, but get ready for a fun time and learning some new cuss words..........lol Russ |
