so i am buying a new cross member, but i dont know what year i should get i have a 1987 but i heard somethign liek the 89 is alot stronger or somthing like that im not really sure, so if you knwo what is stronger or what i can get put on my car etc... let me know thanks

The only reason to buy an 89 crossmember is if you're throwing a 1jz in there. I have an 87 myself. Found no weeknesses in the motor mounts. Pay attention to the wiring (supras are notorious for bad wiring) and if you have a turbo watch the headgasket on high boost applications. Just a warning for later on.

Cross member swap
 

Same here, from what I've heard about the crossmember swap is that it's for swapping a 1jzgte so that it has the room. The only thing I don't know is if that also at the same time leaves room if one wanted to go up to the 2jz.
