86.5 coolant leak
I have an 86 1/2 supra with an 88 motor that the previous owner swapped in...it was about 90% as bad as the original motor. anyway....there is coolant leaking from behind the head somewhere. i was reading about a water pipe back there somewhere.....but i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. so far ive ruled out...broken heater core....hoses...and the head gasket. anyone have any advice?

from behind the head somewhere? hmm... does it only leak when you drive it, then park? or can you see it leaking when you have the car running. i have had multiple coolant leaks. the biggest one i just had the other week was my heater core. you do not want that! expensive part to replace.

You'll need a good flashlight and a mirror-on-a-stick to see it, let alone replace the hose. Good luck...

If i fill it, its fine. when it runs, it pumps it all out in about 20 mins. im replacing the whole motor anyway cause iy has a wicked rod knock, probably from the overheating problem (the last owner was pretty...idiotic). But this believs me to think its a pretty big leak....and its above the radiator somewhere and it has to be pressurized to come out. i already disconnected the heater core and it still leaks.

Thanks for the help. The headgasket is blown anyway. it started smoking pretty bad today when i took it for a test drive, and it started running like a beotch. im guessing cause it was leaking oil all over the plugs. oh well im rebuilding a different motor for it anyway but i was hoping id be able to drive it while the new motor was underway....but i guess not.

89 Coolant leak
On mine it was the by-pass hose between the back of the head and the firewall.
I've gone through three of them in the past year; time for braided steel, I guess. |

Dear mr toyota guru, there is no coolant associated with the EGR Cooler, so no coolant can leak from the EGR Cooler. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to enter this thread, again.

Do some research on the subject before you make a comment on it.

coolant doesn't flow through the EGR cooler
exhaust gases flow through the EGR cooler " Exhaust Gas Recirculation" it's not research ... it's experience
