7MGE vs 7MGTE...just pistons?
I looked in for this in the search area and I am sure it has been covered but I couldn't find any info. Besides the obvious outer pieces and wiring, is the only difference between the two engines just the lower compression pistons? It seems like such a strong built engine that I didn't think it needed better anything in the block area, since the two are relatively close in hp and torque.

When I researched it, thats all I could see.

the intake manifolds are different as well as teh exhaust manifolds, the ecu will most likely also have to be swapped

I understand the differences on the outside of the engines, I was just curious about the engine internals. Is anything built stronger or is it just lower compression pistons. I don't think anything but the pistons are different, but I was just curious.
Thanks Russ |
im pretty sure that the rods and pins are stronger, and i think teh head might be different...other than that i guess its almost the same
|
so are they heads different? just wondering for when i start to build up a 7m

Well. I guess when I finally find a turbo for myself and with my luck, it will need rebuilding. So when I finally take it apart I will finally get to check out the parts to see if there is a difference, but until then, thatnks.

The heads are basically the same, there are 2 different castings with some differences inside the ports to the cylinders on the intake side. The 89+ N/As have a slightly more aggressive exhaust cam. The pistons are higher compression on the N/A, but not by a great amount. There are a few differences on the blocks as far as the placement of holes and such, mostly for the oiling system relating to the turbo. The 7MGTE block has oil squirters for the cylinders, which the 7MGE lacks. The oil pump has a higher capacity "intake" on the 7MGTE.
