How much does the supra weigh? Warped head and cams?
Ive got a 90 Supra turbo 7MGTE. Leather, PW, PL. Not the targa top. How much do they weigh? I saw somewhere that they weigh 3500 lbs and that doesnt seem right?
My head on my supra was warped and I had it decked. I was wondering about the cams, think the warpage could hurt them?

looks like it just you an i here tonight?? my supra is targa and abs power all. 5 speed turbo @ over 3600 lbs ( but im gonna lighten er up )
anyways when my head was re-surfaced, they took off .006 and it was just over the maximum allowable warpage so i had em surface it . how warped was yours or how much material did they remove to make it true when it was re-surfaced (decked)? i was worried about the cams also but my machinist said i was within specs and it would be ok...anythin over .015 causes cam and other problems? but someone else feel free to help... |

i would lighten mine like this
i pulled my whole ac system, removed all the hardware in the trunk, i am going to pull my rear seats and put a roll cage and box it in with carbon fibre, get the stock rims off they way a ton,i just got my new intercooler and all new aluminium ic tubes get a header.Im waiting for my frontside intake with that u eliminate about 6 feet of ic tubing, new underpullies are a huge weight loss, u could replace flywheel with race one huge weight loss, i m shooting myself for 3100 lbs in my 87 hardtop 5 speed turbo full load i v already removed lots but ran out of money after spending 4 k on engine upgrades so now its get more power then see if i even need to lighten up anymore after getting 450 to the wheels might need it after all

ya that sounds like alot of material to be removed but i would definately ask around some more. im sure someone can give you a more definate answer on the cam question? call a few toyota dealers, call a few machine shops, research the other supra forums.
lightening it up? , im still researching it..., one guy i read got his down to 2750lbs but i dont know how he did it.. i think lighter seats, lighter wheels, and gutting the interior, ac removal, but man i love the seats and ac is nice sometimes , its all a trade off, not sure im gonna go that far. carbonfiber everything... |

also....if someone can find a fiberglass hood, i know they have carbon, but who wants to pay 700$ for a hood plus 2 something shipping. And fiberglass fenders, doors, and getting a lexan window made for the rear hatch would save quite a bit of weight. plus removing the metal bumpers that are under the plastic could save a lot. And removing the power window motors, rear wiper(im doing this soon, but mostly cause its ugly and i dont use it), and all the things under the hood mentioned. the AC system in my monte totalled up to over 75lbs, thats a lot just for not being chilly in the summer. But im sure the biggest chunk of weight is that cast iron straight 6 under the hood lol.

you can always do what the pro teams do when they build a car. um in the real world id pull out the spare tire and tools, back seats, replace front seats, take out my subs, buy some light wheels, cf hood, remove power steering and ac, pulleys and flywheel, driveshaft, cf fenders???, and light weight battery. also if you remove all the dead bodies and hidden pot, that would take off a couple hundred lbs.
