Supra Trouble
Hey my 87 supra turbo is having lots of trouble starting, it will turn over for like 10 - 15 seconds then catch finally, studder then fire up and idle fine. But when you rev it to about 3 thousand and stay there while the car is standing still it will studder sort of. Its got brand new plugs and wires. Anyone have any ideas??, suprra_girl seems to know alottt.
Thanks, Matt |

Sounds like a fuel problem. You need to perform a fuel pressure and volume test. Then an injector test on all of them.

i just put a new aftermarket fuel pressure reg in
i would start with what he said but i did some research on the pressure thing and it could very well be as simple as a vacuum leak with your reg it should atleast run bewteen 28 psi and 34psi i ve had to up my pressure but i do know at stock they run where i said i m running at 38 psi now wow what a big diffrence so after checking your pump i would move to the regulator next let me know if that is what it is if it is the reg i have one in good shape that i could sell u for cheap

Hey thanks for the suggestions, how do I go about doing a fuel pressure test, and volume test, and also testing the fuel pump, i know that i have to drop the fuel tank to get at the pump but after that I'm lost!!
Thanks, Matt |

It could be timing! (Maybe)

Just remember that each time you try starting the car, the cold start injector starts spraying. After a couple of times it will almost flood the engine. It will probably start but shake and stutter until it clears out the extra fuel. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks. Hoses get brittle along with gaskets. Spray some WD40 around those things when it is running to see if it changes the running. Most of the time it will rev up slightly and run a little better when you spray a leak.

I'm pretty sure its not a leak, cause when i bought it, august, I had it inspected and I made a point of asking the guy to check for vacuum leaks.

not trying to be a butt
i took my car to get inspected and the people didnt pass it me and my dad did the work on to save $. so we did the list they gave us and took it back and they didnt pass it again and gave us a completely new list. we did all that and took it else where where it passed and they still missed an oil leak. all im trying to say is cant really trust the fellas. i know if i was them id slack off a little and maybe just skim over all the little tedious things
