jdm engine difference?
hey i threw out a rod bearing in my supra, and i was wondering if any of you guys knew the difference between the jdm engines, and the american engines, i am thinking of just buying a whole new motor and i was wondering what problems i would encounter trying to put a jdm motor in the american version of the supra?
-any replys i would deeply appreciate |
There are a few differences. The biggest is the harness, which is for a RHD car, and may just be cut anyway. You'll have to swap it with yours. The throttle body is different. There is a coolant tube that runs along the exhaust side, and around the back, thats different. EGR is blocked off on the JDM motor, might just want to leave it that way, unless you think you'll have an emissions problem where yo ulive. Some of the vacuum routing is different I believe, and there are emissions sensors under the intake mani...I don't think the JDM motor has them.
Thats all I can think of. Make sure the JDM motor you get is like this....I've seen some of those guys try to pass off salvage US motors as JDM. |
would it work to just use all the emission and vacumm hoses on the jdm motor if i swap the intake manifold and throttle body, so i can just use my wiring harness thats in my car? or does the head and the block have different ports? My goal is to buy a jdm motor and just use the american sensors in my car and the american emission system by just swaping the manifolds. Would all this be possible?

you can buy a jdm engine and swap all your parts on not a problem :)

are you positive that the american harnesses with hook up to the jdm motor?
Or will i have to buy a jdm harness if i get the jdm motor? |
i also noticed that egr is blocked off on the head and i dont know how to re route all the vacuum lines.
