stripped spark plug
Hi new to the forums my cuz has a 86.5 supra n/a with a jdm swap and it has a stripped spark plug hole (no threads on head) my question is should he have the head heilcoiled or get a new (to him) head? Also is this common?

It likely can be helicoiled. When I was at the dealer, I used a threaded metal insert called 'keensert'. They work better than helicoil, as they won't ever come out with the spark plug. I've gone to do a tune up on a car that had been helicoiled, and the coil came out with the plug.
There are other better helicoils now, that are not supposed to come out. There was a thread on them here, or on supramania forums. |

I never removed the heads. Did it right on the car. Bring the piston all the way up to the top on that hole. Do your helicoil thing, then vacuum the cylinder out with a strong shop vac and a clear plastic hose (home depot, lowe's, etc) that is small enough to go down the hole and rotate around.
Helicoil site... http://www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.html keensert...... http://www.keensert.com/ threaded inserts... http://www.carrlane.com/catalog/inde...1E173C1B08535A Tool trucks, like Snapon, Matco, Mac, will have what you need also. They will sell to the public for cash. Check phone book, or ask you nearest shop for their #. |
