Removing resonator?

Good idea to remove the resonator? I'm still looking into changing my whole exhaust system. From headers down to my exhaust. But I wanted to know if the resonator is really necessary.

if i remember correctly removing the resonator wont really do much, it might free up the flow a little bit, but it will probably make a little more noise... with anal cops making sure ur below the dB level over here it makes a difference and you'll probably want to avoid the confrontation

From my thread in the FAQs section....
I went with a Magnaflow straight thru muffler (packing inside). It was too loud for me because it is at the end of the pipe, and it created an awful drony deep tone at cruising of 2k RPMs. So...I ADDED a 24" straight thru glass packed, 4" diameter muffler in the middle of the system (middle of car). Now it has a great sound, with an unresticted flow, and just enough back pressure to keep my torque high at lower RPMs.

I have a slightly modded '89 N/A. The 6 cyl sounds very throaty, with out drawing the cops down on me.

what is and where is this resonator:dunno:

The resonator is a small muffler in the exhaust, after the cat convertor. It is located under the center console. Many have been removed thru the years. With a decent muffler at the back, you can remove it without being "too" loud.
It really helps cut down on the "drone" sound that is created at certain RPMs. Without it, at 2k, it sucked. It gave me a headache to drive for 30 min.
