how do you do the timing on a 87 turbo? i dont see how to point the cps right., i read the manual but how do you get the gear on the right tooth?

I'm in the same boat. You need to make sure the engine is at TDC 0 degrees. You do this by rotating the crank so that the timing marks on the cam gears line up with their perspective marks, as well as zeroing the crank pulley on its mark. You then need to open the cover on the CPS and align the trigger so that it's slightly before where it lines up on the trigger because when you put the CPS in, it will rotate clockwise as the gears mesh. Keep trying so that when you put the CPS in, the trigger is aligned. Make sure you do this with plenty of play to adjust the CPS like a distributor.
Then refer to this page to set it: http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/techti...ng_timing.html |

I know you are set already, but just to mention, there is also another way in addition to the way the TSRM states.
JBLMK3 did a write up with pics: http://www.jblmk3.com/id92.htm (Some find it easier that way [me].) |
