I installed a new muffler, and an 18" resonator.. it's still too loud. I did the pipings in 2.5 inch diameter... but it sounds so "deep", that it gives me headaches after a while... I actually smile when I stop accelerating.
What could be causing this? The damned muffler? Or what??? |

It depends on the muffler. Is it one of those like the Honda boys use to make their car 'seem' powerful. They are straight thru, and don't actually muffle the sound.
I use a 17" Magnaflow that is straight thru. It was so load, I put a 24" long x 4' round glasspack in the middle as a resonator. now mine sounds perfect. A 3 chamber, but no packing, muffler would quiet it up, but still sound tough.

I know nothing about mufflers, but you asked if it's "straight through", well, I can tell you this much: When I held it in my hands, the inlet pipe was 2.5 inches, and I didn't see it getting any smaller than that all the way out... so the "minimun" diameter was that, in the whole muffler. Does that mean it's "straight through" ?
Would one with "restrictions" still allow the 2.5 exhaust to work? I mean, how is it restricted? Smaller diameter, or same diameter but with "stuff" in there to kinda lower the sound of it? I need info because I'm a total newbie when it comes to this. What a waste of money man, that muffler costed 70 bux =( |

Yeah, it's probably the ones the Honda boys use it to make their cars "sound" powerful. I miss the sound of the inline6... I can't even listen to music well anymore, lol. I just picked that muffler because it looked nice.... =/

Straight thru means...you can see right thru from one hole, out the other.
Check out this site for info. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=303

Mine's straight through then. Would getting another one reduce the loudness then? I read that link you pasted, nice.
How do I know a muffler is not straight through? If I can't see the other end of it? |
