Default Brake lights not working!

My break lights are not working. I doubt it's the bulbs, as yesterday I swapped the 89+ JDM lights and I'm having the same problem (they came with bulbs).

When I hit the break pedal, the ONLY light than turns on is the one in the spoiler.. but the tail lights do not get a "higher intensity" as they should. I mean, if it's night and I turn the lights on, the rear lights do turn on, but when one breaks, they should light up more.. And when it's daylight and I don't have them on, they should also light up when I break, but they don't. Only the spoiler one.

The dashboard doas indicate there is something wrong (you know, that light next to the "open doors" light). Well, it's not the bulbs I believe, and it's not the pedal contact (because spoiler one works), so, what could it be? Could it be the yellow box in the back? I heard that when that breaks, the break lights stay ON all the time.. is this true? I think I'll take out the box and give it to this electronic tecnician who works for us here at the company so he checks it out, coz it might be hard to find (?). Any1 has ideas?

ya i read something like that somewhere. the box or sensor or whatever sometimes screws up and wont let the lights work. you can bypass this but then the light on the dash stays lit. think i read it on sogi

Default Hrm...

I was kinda drunk when I replied to that yesterday. Anyways, now that I read it again, I'm angry. If it doesn't work I'll be unhappy I cannot stand that light in the dashboard being on all the time, argh! To me, that's even worse than having the break lights not working, hah. Although that is dangerous, I need them to work properly, as the ones in the wing is small....

Well, I had same problem with the taillights (rear hatch leak). I had water get into Tailight Failure Sensor and also corroded my taililights. I also took off my wing and plugged the wholes but, I replaced the third light with the bulb and threw some tape on it so the warning light would shut up. Anywho

I bought a used Tail Failure Sensor on ebay (**be sure you match the part numbers from your original one**) threw that on, yet still tail lights where not operating correctly. (i also checked all my relays and switches, which is a good idea).

What I finally did that fixed it was: I ripped all the tail lights out, got new pigtails, new bulbs, and some di-electric grease. I completely dissasembled it all cleaned and re-wired with new everything, minus the bulb holders (idk the proper name for them) i just cleaned them.

Threw some di-electric grease on the bulbs and new pigtails, installed and I was good to go everything works fine..If your new to wiring you might need some help..but thier is some helpful directions from supramania : How-To:Repair tail lights - SupraMania

Dont know what path you will take but this is what worked for me

i have an 87' supra.....and i had the same problem, first i checked the bulbs, bulbs were good, then i checked the fuse, the fuse was good, then i checked the "yellow box" you were talking about, i opened it up and found a burnt circuit( the box is under the driver's tailight ), so i replaced it and the brakes work perfect now........i got it on ebay LAMP FAILURE TOYOTA model no. 89373-32120, its cheap and easy to fix, because the toyota dealer was charging me 280 over here in jersey..........hope it helped you
