Need Help
I'm a new member and just got a 89 Toyota Supra Turbo. It is an automatic and the car really runs strong. However, the car wont start when it is hot and the starter won't even crank. I already replaced the starter and new battery and still having the same problem. A guy I knew told me that it might be the relay's??? Car starts right up when it is cold and you can drive it forever just don't turn off the engine cause it will not start not unless you use a jumper cable to jump start the car... Has anyone had this experience who can help me?
Thanks, |

The car would not start anymore. The starter would not turn. Then it started and ran fine for like another month, then would not start again. I had it towed to a shop and it was found to have a bad relay. So yes, that is a definite possibility from my experience. Welcome to TSI

On my crx the main fuel relay went out and it would only start when cold. It sends a signal to the fuel pump that the ignition is on. Im sure it is similar on the supra.

Well...if you jump it with another battery, and it cranks right up, I doubt its the relay. This is a tough one. Check the battery connections at the posts. Clean them real good and put them back on. Check the ground at the engine block, too. And all the grounds.
Does the volt meter show about 13v when its running?

secret007, please don't cross post in the future.
(Cross posting is when you make the same thread in different sections.) I merged the two identical threads you made into this one. |

Re: Not starting
Several readers including myself have had a similar problem, and it turned out to be the factory installed alarm. If this accidently gets set, your car will not start, not even crank. To unset, insert key in door and turn twice to the right (open door position). Then get in and try to start it. If it doesn't work there, go to the passenger door, which is less likely to be worn out. Good luck. This may be your problem, many people have been bamboozled by this alarm.
