Default BOV question.

Just curious about the bov. I just got an 87 turbo. It had some front end damage but I am getting that straightened out in my shop. The car had a bleeder valve with a screw adjuster coming off the stock bov, wastegate. I have seen these things out there in a couple of forms and wondered if they work at all. The owner said the previous owner had it screwed in till it read 10 psi. This is a stock turbo and wastgate. I had heard of shimming and upgrading of course, but not sure about this way of boosting pressure.

Any comments about this? I haven't gotten the car ready yet for the road. I have to get the tubing that goes from the intercooler to the intake because the old one was crunched in the wreck. The cooler looks good, stock and for now all I want to do is drive the car with the current turbo system. Later I will upgrade, but I want to see how the engine performans and if I need to correct any other problems first.

Thanks

Russ

Can you post a pic? It sounds like it's really connected to the wastegate, it may be a manual boost control.

I will take a picture soon, but that is what it is, a manual, adjustable boost control. The previous owner installed a pillar mounted guage and said that it was adjusted to 10 psi. I won't know until I get the car running, but are these type adjusters ok? They seem so cheap, but so easy!

Just curious

They are OK to use, I hear they are prone to boost creep, just don't get crazy with it, but have fun.
