7M-GE swap to 7M-GTE Questions
I am wondering what it takes to swap a 7M-GTE engine into a 1986.5 N/A 5 speed supra MK3 with a 7M-GE currently in it. This includes, everything that goes into the car to make this whole thing work including if I would need a new set of gauges, LSD, ecu, tranny etc. I am new to this forum and have not worked on cars very much but i know about many kinds of cars and love every kind of car. I have been reading a lot about the more indepth workings of cars lately and now I'm trying to figure out some costs before I buy a car. An 1986.5 supra MK3 will likely be the car I get for a number of reasons and as a result it is the year I would like as much of that information about as possible.

Check out the FAQs section, there if a thread on swapping. That will probably answer most of your questions. Then makes some notes to do a 'search' in this, and general question section for some more answers.
But...since you haven't got the car yet, I'd suggest finding a turbo car, then fixing it up. In the long run I think you will be better off.

thnx for the idea on just getting a turbo car to begin with, i have been looking at that option. The only problem is that i live in Canada for now and to say the least turbo cars r limited at best here. As a result the swap looks like it will b the best bet when it comes to cost, especially because i have found a number of engine importers within the country.

The w58 will be good enough if you plan on staying under 300hp but if you plan building it up to well over 300hp then i suggest you get the r154 turbo tranny cuz you will definately fry that w58.

i want to get around 300hp running N/A.. im doing.. intake, exhaust and cutting my cat out for now.. then probibly a down pipe.. then ill run electric fans.. and get a different underdrive pully. not sure what ill be at after all that. my friend knows a guy that might hook me up with a turbo, not sure yet tho. maybe take out my ac.. then it doesnt have to turn that too and ill lose a few pounds.
my intake/exhaust/cat will get me 15-20hp? better low/high rpm power. Last edited by newbsupra; 07-18-2006 at 04:56 AM. |

i hear the w58 (n/a trans) can hold up from 300-350 hp but if you plan on putting more hp go with r-154 and if you put the 7mgte in dont forget a new clucth.
