86 supra
kinda new to the whole supra experience. i just bought a 1986 toyota supra, it is a type 7M-GE, non turbo and it is also an automatic. i only paid 900 for it and was wondering if i got a good deal. the interior is in excellent shape but the exterior needs a paint job. the only things i have found wrong with the car is that it wont start when i turn the key but it will start when i run a wire from the starter and just tap it on the battery and it starts right up and also the speed odometer does not work, my mechanic said these problems were do to bad wiring. by the way how much horsepower does a stock 86 auto have?

Sounds like a good deal to me.
Around 200hp is stock, depending on the wear to the engine. |

The speedo is run with a cable. The starter has a relay.
Check in the TSRM under the starter circuit, or/and the electrical system. http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/

Yeah, what mrnickleye said. The starter relay is behind the passenger kick panel. Easy to replace. Good car, great price. I got an 87 for about the same price and the same condition. Paint it and you can get 3 to 4 times the price easily.

Go with the old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Of course if it is then go right ahead, but it didn't sould like yours was. Just do the tune-up thing, check all hoses and belts, cam belt esp, Check oil losses, replace valve cover gaskets and such. Preventitive measures are best for now.

should my radiator hoses be spongy, to where i can press the hose and the top of the hoses will touch the bottom of the hose? what does it mean that the supra is an inline six? what are some ways i can put cold air intake on it and any other modifications to the 7mge without adding a turbo?

what it means
what it means when it says that it is an inline six is that all the pistons are in a straight line not in a v shape like most normal engines and no your radiator hoses should not be all spongy like that i am not sure why they wold be that way but i just know that they are not supposed to be that way and as far as the cold air intake goes i would just get the kand n kit i think it runs about 140 dollars for the set up

Spongy to one guy might be 'slightly firm' to another guy. Yes, you can squeeze the hose (even a new one) with your thumb and fingers to make it closed, to touch both sides together. Spongy to me means soft and squishy, like old hose that's had oil on it, and ruined it.
Have a friend thats worked on cars look at it. You don't want to loose an engine because a hose blew. The hoses behind the head probably need changing.
