Strange idle and horrible rev
Ive been dealing with this for a few days, ive checked my wires and plugs, and all of them are in order.
What its doing is it will crank, but it idles at like ~400 and just rumbles and shakes horribly. So i apply gas until its about 1500 or more, and it still sounds terrible but the shaking stops. It use to not even crank, but there was oil in the 1 and 2, and 5 and 6 spark plugs, like tons, so i drained it out and whiped it clean. My friend was fiddling around and broke the cold start injector right off the housing, and im curious if it would affect how the car is acting or not. Thanks |

When my car was doing something similar I replaced the o2 sensor and that helped tremendously. So, when was the last time you replaced the O2 sensor? They're cheap as hell too, like $40 or less. Hope this might help?

I havent replaced it in almost a year i believe.
The car sounds just like a cam'd v8 now, and it backfires alot and runs rich rich, richer than anything it has before. Timing is dead perfect, i havent gotten a chance to check under the car for vaccum leaks. Ill replace the o2 sensor tomorrow and see if it helps. Any other ideas? |

that sounds exactly like a dead cylinder or 2. but i pulled a plug off my motor and it didnt even run that bad so it might be a fuel problem (way to rich or lean). or somethign is physically broken inside the motor.

There is nothing better than a good tune up. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Of course any vacuum leaks need to be fixed. Make sure of the firing order, 153624 and make sure your cam drive belt hasn't slipped a tooth. With it running that rich you might have even melted the cat. converter and created a lot of backpressure.
Lots of things to check, but do the basics and then check compression. No cold start will make it very hard to start when it is cold. If you could, you might even try swapping your AFM to see if that makes a difference, oh and check your air cleaner. Let us know. Russ |

Ill check all my vaccum lines today as well as the firing order. I have a full 3 inch exhaust from the turbo elbow back, so there isnt a cat so thats one thing i wont have to worry about.
The start of the story i guess, i went to drive it around one day, we had this weird 70 degree day in the middle of february during 2 peak days of rain, and i noticed it was low on gas. So i took it home to fill up the next day. And it didnt crank since. Thats when i started working on it and found the spark plugs swimming in oil. I got it to crank now and itll stay cranked. I checked my timing yesturday, checked everything on the side of the air filter and turbo, all ofthe vaccum hoses on that side were fine, and crack free, and all my plugs were plugged in. Ill go over it one more or two more times to check. It does need a tune up, ill admit that, so ill buy some new plugs and wires, o2 sensor, i recharged the k&n air filter about 2 months ago, so i think itll be ok. What is a good way to check the firing order, and ill hunt down someone with an afm to try swapping out. I often have a problem with it not wanting to crank b/c the o2 wires and the cps wires have to be jiggled and fiddled with before it will. Anyone else have that problem? Thanks for all the advice, ill keep you guys updated. |
