Exhaust for 7mg(t)e

Hey guys...
I will be doing a swap (7mgte) in the next year or two but need a new exhaust, stat! Will getting a 3" exhaust right now be bad for the n/a side of it? I guess i just don't want to buy a 2.5" muffler and cat and piping, then have to get a whole new exhaust shortly down the road... it'd be money wasted in my opinion. So my question I guess is, what exhaust setup would do me suffice now and with the 7mgte?

Thanks... sorry if thats a little confusing?!

Will running a highflow cat, 3" to muffler be bad? Even if it's only for a year or two?

i don't see why it would hurt it. if you don't get tested for emissions i would run with a test pipe instead of a high flow cat. there is a thread in here somewhere on exhaust systems, i'll have to find it and post it

Yea i read that awhile ago. Liek i know what i would put on it if i were going to stay n/a, but i think that im going to put the 7mgte in for sure now and that kinda changes my plans... with headers as well. Because I cant put the OBX headers for the 7mge on the 7mgte... correct?

Correct on the header issue. You could use 3" everything back. You just will loose some torque on the launch, but can gain some high end. But I would not be reving past 6500rpm anyway.

For me, mostly around town, I like the torque on the bottom. Quicker 0-60.

If you do put a header on now, you could always sell it here after you do the turbo swap.

Cat conv does give you some (?) back pressure for the n/a.

If it were me....I would go 3" with a 3 chamber magnaflow muffler to get some back pressure. It would be plenty of sound, and I've read of others with turbos use it just fine.

ohk. so get the headers now, sell them later. I can do that. I'll just keep them as clean as possible over the span.

Then get a high flow cat, 3" custom exhaust to a 3" magnaflow muffler? Sounds like a plan. This summer its paint job/body work... and manual conversion... then next summer i plan on doing the swap. I'll have to suffer threw low end loss for the time being. it'll be worth it in the end financially.

Thanks fellas. I think that's it?

get a 3" cat back with a 6"muffler for a high flow.... thats what i use on my mk2 turbo.
