Red face Stereo Removal

Hey, i'm sure this has been asked many times, but how simple is it to remove the old Toyota Radio from an '88? Thing is, i can get free fitting at halfords, but knowing them, they'll charge me for it if its not as easy as 'ping out the old one, plug in the new one'. I'd like to do it myself if possible, so is this do-able without removing the entire dash and/or with only minimal tools?

Cheers, and TIA

Cool

it's very easy .
take out the ashtray
remove the 2 screws in there
one screw by the shifter left side then you just pull the one piece right off there are 2 electircal connections that need to be disconnected before you completely remove

There are actually 4 screws in my ashtray, two low, two high, and un screw your stick shift knob if your a manual, not sure about autos. Don't forget to disconnect the wires to the cigarette lighter. I've only done it about a billion times.

theres the 4 screws in the cig lighter, one next to the shifter, one under the dash by the steering wheel. just pop off the piece and disconnect the wires to the cig lighter, flashers and the button for the headlight washer on the older models

Wow! It worked! I was under the impression it was like 10,000,000 screws and a degree in mechanical engineering to get the thing out!

Now to remove the jammed tape....

Talking

Finally managed to get the chewed up tape out of there - is it common knowledge that the toyota stereo's are pretty good at mangling tapes? :P

I'll replace the headunit at a later date, but for now - just glad to get it working!!

Thanks again for the help, and recommendations on low-key, non-bling stereo's? Any Recommendations??

Don't buy a stero online, go somewhere and browse to get what you like, then buy it online for cheap.

Yeah i've already been doing that - i like the look of the JVC KD-G111 - its all black, matte finish and its just a simple CD player, although theres the 152, which is much the same, although its got slightly more features. What i was asking, was if people recommended a particular make or a model range, so i could then rummage through an ICE place in person and make my decision

i dont have any model or brand but id suggest something that has well defined buttons so you dont have to hagel with it will driving. also id recommend a mp3 capability cause with them, you can play like 200 songs on a single disc
