a rod bearing
allright i went and had the car looked at. my knocking sound is apparently a rod bearing. How hard is that to repair and can anyone give me a ballpark to the price. how much would it take to rebuilt a 7mge or buy a "new"/used engine

You can always save money by doing it yourself, but do you have the tools, the time and the skills to do it. Not to mention a clean place to rebuild it. It is a daunting task but not impossible. I have rebuilt some and saved half the cost because half the cost is labor.
I have seen estimates here for the parts so you should do a search. It cost me around $600, parts and machine work but pulling, taking it apart, rebuiding and installing I did myself. You can find engines on ebay for around a thousand and they say low mileage, but shipping and the fact that you really don't know what you are getting scares me a little. I would go rebuild but I am sure you are looking at at least $2000 or more. I am sure you will get more replies. Russ |
