Coolant Hose Diagram
Hello, I really need some help here. And before anyone asks, I bought the $127 Repair Manual straight from compton CA Toyota production facility and it did not help my situation. I also stumped my local Toyota dealership Toyota of Wallingford, thats right I stumped the parts/service department. Pretty much made them feel stupid, it was fun. I think the 1987 turbo supra I picked up qualifys for the most hacked supra in exsistence.
Just been busy stripping it down to install Helicoils into the head because some hack used way more than 29 ft lbs when reinstalling the exhaust manifold. 3 M10 and 1 M6 Heli's in this head so far. But at least it works. And I can proudly say I replaced every seal on the exhaust side of this engine. (turbo seals, oil & coolant line crush washers, exhaust gaskets, cam position sensor o-ring, etc.) Now, well here Ill let the picture do the talking- Now can anyone tell me whats wrong with this picture? Anyone at all? Look closely at the coolant bypass pipes that run to the back of the engine (the ones behind the exhaust manifold. Heres a close up. Now can anyone tell me where the hose with the bolt (Yes I bought the car with the bolt) goes to? I almost forgot, a coolant hose diagram of the area I have pictured would do wonders for me, a sloppy hand drawn paint pic of what it looks like under your hood would be great! And just for sh!ts and giggles I performed a cylinder compression test on it when it was cold I took out the EFI fuse and coils and heres the results I got 1: 184 psi 2: 185 psi 3: 181 psi 4: 173 psi 5: 173 psi 6: 183 psi Now the shop manual states for the 7m-gte max compression should be 142 psi. Ummmmmm? Last edited by IHateHacks; 05-04-2006 at 04:22 PM. |

Ok I did a little searching and came up with a post by a Gentleman named toyota guru I think it was. And he said this
"what do you think cools the exhaust gases, coolant from the head ( thus the term "cooler") I've replace dozens of these because of coolant leaks. it is a heat exchanger type system, the gases flow thru the back of the head which is surrounded by coolant to cool the gases b4 entering the intake to cut down on nitrous emisions. Its the big plug under the cover and the coolant nipple on top that leak. Once the plug starts leaking, it gets bad real quick. take one off the back of the head and you'll see how it works. most ppl never change this gasket or reseal the plug when doing a HG job, only to have it leak at a later time causing more problems. I've even seen the plug leak and coolant get into the intake causing major problems, one time it actually hydro locked the motor the leak was so bad. Thats from 15 years of actual toyota dealership experience." OMG I was trying to tell the people at my dealership that there was coolant going through the egr cooler!!! Just like this Toyota guru was trying to state above! I think all my woes will be gone if I could just contact this person. |

Ok first of all I owe you my life. Second, I can't believe you know the retards im talking about at wally world. Third, Im on my way there right now for some bullsh!t pcv hose and brake shims (that didnt come with my car). Fourth, I got ripped off on my Supra book this is what page CO-2 shows me, damn photo bucket is doing maintenence so I cant show you what CO-2 looks like in my book but my book DOES NOT contain that diagram that I just promptly printed. DUDE I OWE YOU MY LIFE!! Can I at least buy you a beer so we can shoot some sh!t about the only thing that matters (besides family) in my life which is my supra?
As soon as my photo hosting site is up, Ill show you what my CO-2 page says, and ill post a pic of my supra. This site earns my respect, way better than Toyotanation any day of the week. Thank you kind sir!! Last edited by IHateHacks; 05-05-2006 at 12:39 PM. |

just say hi to kevin at the fishmarket for me . lol
say while you have it apart like that you might want to consider installing a good water temp gauge into that nipple i was talking about . accurate coolant temperature is a good to know with a turbo

No that pic of it apart is from last august when I had to repair the stripped threads holding the exhaust manifold on. I put it back together since then. Its just about road worthy now. Just tieing up loose ends now. Its been a long and back breaking journey with alot of blood sweat and tears, thats for sure. Heres what it looks like-
Notice the 91 bumpers, lights and wing? And not a spot of rust with 120,300 miles. I almost forgot heres what my toyota repair manual has on page CO-2: Nowhere in this 4 inch thick book does it contain the diagram that was linked above. Last edited by IHateHacks; 05-05-2006 at 02:31 PM. |

Wow thats some crazy sh!t you got done to the stock turbo! 2 questions how much did that cost and how much boost are you running?
Too bad its in Texas, I wouldnt feel right shipping my turbo, I'd rather bring it there myself. Last edited by IHateHacks; 05-05-2006 at 11:43 PM. |
