throttle Positioning Switch..any experiance?
hey, Ithink I have a TPS problem. As i stated in a previous thread, Ihave trouble with warm start ups, and even cool start ups for that matter. Tonight I noticed that when my cruise control is on, my engines speeds up then dies, speeds up , then dies.....like back and forth....u can actually feel the gas pedal move in and out as it does this...this makes me suspect TPS...but anyone else have experiance with the TPS on a 88 Supra Turbo?
Thanks Chris |

There's an easy way to find out if your TPS is improperly adjusted; run diagnostics. Search the forum for diagnostic codes, and if your car is throwing the TPS code (code 51) then run a search for TPS adjustment. It's in the TSRM. There have been a lot of prior posts about TPS, just run a search.

Check your codes. If the diag jumper is installed, you will get a code 51 if either the throttle is depresses slightly, the AC switch is on or the car is out of park or nuetral/clutch in.. Each can be tested individually.
If your car is throwing a code 51 (Open idle contacts) and your not pressing the gas, the AC is off and the car is in park, then you need to adjust your TPS as per TSRM page FI-103. code 51 can cause stumbling and high idle problems. Sidenote:You can also unplug the TPS and the car will run and drive fine as a test only... Once the TPS is set, Then reset your timing to 10 degs like the TSRM says and let us know.. A code 41 means it is time for a new TPS as the other half of the tps is bad, The pot side that measures where your throttle position is at goes bad.
