No Gas Cap?
Honestly, this is probably the stupidest thing you have heard, and the stupidest thing I have done, well one of them. Last time I filled up my car was about 5 days ago or so. I went tonight to add about 15 bucks, and realised I had no gas cap. Then I realised that the last time I filled up, I dont think I put it back on....I dont know how the heck I would forget it!! So my question is.....
What effect will this have on my car??? I havent noticed a change in performance at all, but will it have long term effects?? I plan on getting a new one ASAP, but I dont think I can walk into a dealership or auto store and expect them to have one on hand. PS. Laugh all you want....I know I did... |
I sent a PM to you, but why not share the information here.
So here is the info for the forum as well: If only a stock type will do and you can't buy them from any place other than the dealer, I can send you mine for 10 bucks shipped. I don't know how much they go for....or if you can buy them standard and one size its all. I know that oil filler caps are different. If your cap is off, you just will have your gas evaporate some (a very little bit) and fumes that can ignite and blow your car up....but that is a very remote chance at that. You should just get one at your earliest chance you can....but it is not as big a deal as other things like a flat tire or something like that. Good to have one for sure, but not super urgent. |
Parts store
You can buy the correct gas cap at any parts store for about $6. Standt makes them. We sell them at the shop for $10 when a cap fails the smog test.
