how many miles on the car? since your gonna do the rod, you may as well do a rebuild kit that comes with rings, bearings and gaskets.
you are more than likely going to have to pollish the cranks due to the rod knock so if they remove anything off the journals then you will need undersized bearings. i know you are probably wondering why i said undersized when they remove metal from the crank but that is what they are called. oversized bearings are used when the rod is to small, sounds backwards but that is the way it is. if you really wanted to get tricky, get a rod and piston kit that comes with total seal rings and then all the gaskets and bearings. oh and go with all ARP on the main studs and head then use a metal head gasket when you reassemble the engine. you may have to mill the head so be sure to check it for warpage once you disassemble everything. if you go with oversized pistons then you already know you will need to bore and hoan the block. most machine shops dont charge that much for all the machine work so it is'nt that bad. they will also balance the engine for you when you give them the crank, pistons, rods and block. |
