custom intake ?'s
i want to make a custom intake with these pipes (link below). could just go to lowes or somewhere and have them bend the pipe?http://www.suprasport.com/product.as...d=452&catid=48
pipes^^^ the inlet in the picture below is 2.75" would i get 2.75" pipe or 3.00inch pipe? should i use couplers that are 2.75, do the couplers stretch or would i get 3.00 couplers?http://www.suprasport.com/view_category.asp?cat=86 <<couplers also the AFM is 3.00" wide so how would i connect the 3.00inch AFM opening to the 2.75inch opening ? any help would be appreciated. |

Intake
I wouldn't recommend using metal for your intake pipe as it will just soak up all that exhaust heat and defeat the purpose. You can search around some of the aftermarket speed shops and see if someone has a tapered non metallic that has those dimensions on the end but I'd just stick with the stock
one, or get a reducer to fit the top one. You can see what I mean here, look at the fittings. http://www.simota.com.au and click on the fittings. You have to take in consideration the small hose that goes to the rack and pinion from the bottom of the first boot from the AFM. Just get rid of the airbox and add a filter like the AEM or Simota. You will need an adapter for the cone that attatches to your AFM. Last edited by f00g00; 05-31-2006 at 09:57 PM. |

yo weezl this is thanx to you too i thinkis the final setup that i will use
sori for the pics (took it with a camera phone) with this setup i also moved the afm, one good purpose is to free up some space in the front, on the 1st pic the red circle is a 2.75 to 3 inch coupler with a 45 degree bend the blue lines is a 22 degree bend pipe from pepboys cone filter from pepboys (i advice getting k&n filters, theyre better) the green lines is a 2.5 to 3 inch coupler that i used to insert the duct that lead to the bottom front of the car last one is a 3 inch plastic tubing pretty long actually it goes all the way down to the bottom slits in the front and i used some zip ties to anchor it to the bottom grill, if you are gonna do the duct too, u need to cut a hole in the plastic cover behind your fog light underneath the car you dont need to disassemble your headlights either like S.O.G.I. said jus use the oblong shaped hole under the headlights, i think this is where the old inlet goes , so all this setup would coust u around 30 bucks pretty cheap for a cold air intake dunt u think?

afm n things
couple questions...
1.when you moved the afm did u have to extend any wires or do any cutting or does it just move up there pretty easy? 2.the air duct...did that connect directly to your cone filter or is it sitting there? 3.is there a website to get the pipe from?i tried pepboys.com. and the coupler in red,the 45deg one, was that the stock one? |

the afm was no problem at all, the wires will fit perfectly to its new position, no cuttin involved with this all you need is clamps to hold it in
the air duct has a coupler in the end and i used zip ties and i used the old harness where the old filter bolts on to as an anchor so it wont fall if i hit a bump or anything, but the hole on top of the filter is 2.5 inches and it secures pretty good with the step down coupler the 45 degree coupler was used in the car b4 , the old owner maed a semi-cold air intake, which was not even good , nd i jusd used it when i was improvising my intake, you can find those at any good shops jus ask for it , cuz the shop that i go to can even custom fit me one in any color , but thats jus for looks for me and i will do that later on hopefully i was any help to u and good luck look at this pic thats the old setup that he did , its was pretty crappy cuz it wasnt even sealed, and god knows what got into the engine with his dumbass, but this is where i got the 45 deg. maybe if u look at the stock system u can salvage one from it too

one more thing i almost forgot, there is one hose that goes to ur intake hoses that u wont have anywhere to put when u do the piping for the cold air intake
here's a solution that i did : buy those breathers from pepboys too, take out the hose from where its connected to idk what its called but its by the oil filter. theres a snag in this process: the breather is too big for the thing that u put in it, solution: cut off a segment from the old hose then put it inside the breather so the hole will get tighter then put it in and jus use a clamp to hold it down hopefully that helps got pics but crappy phone tho

one last thing...
to make it plain and simple, i dont get how you did the things in yellow in the attachment below. -first circle (top) i dont get how you attached the end of the AFM to the piping -second circle- piping to the filter and for pepboys did u order online for their pipes and breathers or what? Filter
What are you using to block off all the hot air from the rad and the exhaust from entering the filter?
