Modded Tail lights "JDM look"
 

Total cost for this project was 13 bucks! 1 can of plastic paint, 1 roll of masking tape, and 1 roll of shelf paper.

If anyone REALLY wants to know how to do this...I'll do a write up. I took pics as I went to document it just in case. Basically you have to take your tail lights apart (not easy to do actually as they are "pinned" and not meant to be taken apart) then mask the areas you want to remain open to light, and spray the rest black. There is a guy on Ebay who sells a vinyl applique that does the same thing, but his goes on the outside and I suspect it looks cheasy. My way, the outside of the lens remains plastic and therefore looks factory.

after getting em done and putting em on I have to say, the pictures dont do em justice. It was getting dark as I was putting em back on. I'll try to take some pictures in the bright sun so you can see just how damn cool this looks.

good idea. i like em. get a pic of them in complete darkness and a pic when the brake lights are on to see how they look when they are lit up.

i was thinkin of doing that too, but jus dont have the time right now,, plus what do u think if i paint it white to match the body, would that look cheesy or black is just a better look?

Well, you could paint it white, but thats just gonna make it look red...realize, the paint is "behind" the red plastic lens. If you look closely at mine you will see it actually looks kind of marroon.

Now you could paint the outside to match the car as well, but thats a different deal altogether...

I rendered in photoshop a version I was thinking about...after I got done I decided I didnt like it that much...but what do you all think?

looks good! after looking at the pictures it gave me an idea; you could put in whatever design you want really, like on the blinkers put on vertical lines and on the brakes lights you could have diagonals. i think im gonna try that... eventually, its on the to do list now...

how did u get in the lights, was it hard? plus what do u think if i painted it white , cuz im thinkin of doing the same thing with my mouldings so it will match the car, so i can have a cleaner look, or will i jus make look more dirtier if painted it white from the outside what do ya think


and can u do me a photoshop too ,, vertical lines on the turn signal,, standing rectangle on the reverse , and for the brakes two 2 or 3 inch circles but they dont touch each other, can u do that??:stickpoke

tell ya what...ship me your tail lights with a $50 deposit and I'll render you whatever you want. Then for 50 bucks more I'll paint em and ship em back to ya. Hows that sound?
