87 R Rear hub removal????HELP!!!!!!
I am trying to swap out the right rear hub from a donor to my current car. I took all the bolts out, the axle nut and for some reason expected the hub to slide right off the axle........WRONG!!!!!!! I have taken front wheel drive hubs off very similar to this set up and after taking the axle nut off it just slides out. Am I missing something or do these rust weld themselves on and have to be tossed? I have a small puller and put it on the hub and tried screwing it against the axle but nothing. Tapped it with a hammer, nothing. I even beat it with the hammer and ended up making it hard to screw the axle nut back on.
The book sheds lo light nor the cd manual. I am hoping there is a pinch bolt or a pin that I am missing somewhere, but I can't see any. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks Russ |

I am not sure if this will help you but it may:
I removed both of my rear axles. One came off pretty easy and one just would not slide off! I had to hammer the hell out of it. Maybe some penetrating oil will help you... If this pic helps at all, feel free to take a gander: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...R/PICT0870.jpg

Well thanks TONY. That confirms what I thought, but was hoping I was missing something. I guess it is time to get out the big hammer, sure hate losing an axle that way though.

try some Blaster in there, let it sit for a few hours, and come back and give it one hard knock, I bet it pops right off!
