1JZ-GTE...so what is the Low Down?`
hey. I have an 88 Supra, Turbo, Automatic. Im considering buying a JDM 7MGTE or a 1JZGTE. now before we start..i know all the debates about the 7mgte against the 1jz....i AM buying a JDM engine to build up out of the car, while my stock 7mgte powers the car till my build up is done, not sinking the money into the one i already have..so lets get that arugment out of the way to begin with...
my first question is: how hard is the swap. I know for the 2jzgte. your looking at moving the fire wall, and alot of heavy modification to get it to fit. How easy is FITTING the 1jzgte into the MIII body style? Obviously the JDM 7MGTE is a dropin..so we move on second Question is tranny related....my car is currently Auto,,,the 1jz i have a chance at comes with the auto tranny...how well does it fit into my current set up...what would it take to make that work? THIRD question...I know I gain about 50 HP.....but im loosing .5 of a L. what does this do to my HP ceiling? (like where does this engine top out for possible HP) And finally....the 1jz came out of a lighter supra if my understanding is correct...even though it has 50 moreHP..what kinda ACTUAL speed difference would I notice from my stock 7MGTE? Thanks for eveyone's time and input Chris oh and PS: please do not post "Just drop the money you would sink into a JDM engine into ur current one.." I am buying a motor to build up as a HOBBY over the next year..and then drop into my car when it is done..so I can continue to drive my car as I do the build up...I understand that with 3 grand in parts either engine rocks...but if im going to buy one, which one is going to suit best...keeping in mind i DO NOT want to do any sort of modification if possible..I know the 1JZGTE will not just drop in and line right up...but i dont want to hav to move any part of the engine bay, firewall or anything like that..if thats the case..its the 7mgte im stickin with!! |
