Super Monitor
Correct me if im wrong but Im pretty sure the super monitor only came on 87-88 supras. I have it and didnt even care until I found out you can do so much with it.
I did a search for super monitor gas mileage but nothing came up. So (those with the super monitor) what is your gas mileage? On mine it said 16.9 when I got it and I drive 250 miles a week (which is nothing). Did everything on the TSRM maintenance list and now its at 18.4, and it goes up .1 every 3-4 days but Ive only driven it 1000 miles so far. If you dont have the super monitor dont bother posting, I dont wanna hear what you calculate your mileage out to. I want the people with the super monitor to post what theirs says. |

I just sold my supermonitor on ebay for 100 bucks. Its basically a trip computer that goes in the spot where your clock is. It performs a number of calculations and functions, including fuel milage, elapsed time, miles till empty, etc.
I bought one before discovering my car did not have the wiring harness for it.

Look in my show and tell thread. In that pic it says 17.4, that was like the first week of june.
Ummm theres no miles till empty. Theres MPG, oil change calc, gallons of fuel consumed, time, date (you know whats funny it stops at 2006 how convienent), and a couple other less important things. It basically monitors fuel use through the injector pulse width. From that 1 thing they calculate gallons used, mpg, and how dirty the oil is. And on top of that you can perform self diag. tests on the engine, automatic trans (ECT), ABS, and something called CC which I think is cruise control. All without even getting out of the drivers seat, let alone opening the hood and figuring out all the correct terminals to bridge. Anybody besides me have it stock in their supra? I have a stock super monitor. It says i get about 12 mpg which doesnt surprise me. The miles till oil change stays at 3k. But yeah its nice having it. I dont know if ive ever set the date, maybe I should. How do you do all of those check you were talking about Hacks. BTW my Supra is for sale just give a PM for info.

On 1987 and 1988 models with the optional Super Monitor you can also display the codes on the monitor screen: Turn the ignition switch to on but dont start the engine. Simultaneously push and hold in the SELECT and INPUT M keys for at least three seconds- at first it will say Err but wait until the letters DIAG appear on the screen. After a short pause, hold in the SET key for at least three seconds. If the system is normal, an ENG-OK appears on the screen. If theres more than one problem the screen pauses three seconds then dispalys the next code. After you've read out the stored codes, turn off the ignition switch or push any button except SET.
Wow 12 mpg. Thank you very much for your response. How many miles on your supra? My oil change interval starts at 5000 when I reset it and goes down about 100 miles every 2-3 gallons of gas it burns. Anybody else? |

I just rebuilt the engine so the engine has 700 miles on it. As for mods it has a 3 inch exhaust, CAI and i believe 550cc injectors. The monitor could very well be wrong but i cant say either way as i havent actually checked to see. How many gallons does the tank hold and ill have to check next fill up?

Super Monitor
Yes, you are correct, it only came on the 87 and 88 model years in the USA. I'm not sure about the other countries. I believe I recall seeing somewhere that it was about an $800 option and I have it on my 65,000 orginal mile '87 Turbo. My mileage has been averaging about 17-18.5 mph, but that's mostly with city (Seattle) driving. I have not taken it on a long trip yet where I consumed the entire tank fully on the freeway, but on some of my longer trips...say 1/2 to 3/4 of the tank used on the freeway and the remaining city driving I averaged a high of 19+ mph. Oh, and btw, this is a completly stock MKIII.
- and for the guy who didn't know about this option, the monitor also has elapsed time and an oil change menu. I couldn't imagine attempting to use the elapsed timer while doing any high performance driving as the buttons are not in the best location.

congrats on the mileage increase. I'd love to find a way to get my mileage "average" up beyond 20+ mph without loosing the performance.
