Wideband question.
 

I have been trying to find info on the wideband sensor. Is there a popular kit or pieces to buy to fit my 87 Turbo? I have the Lexus afm now with injectors, but it seems to run pretty rich. I think I need the o2 sensor but if I am going to get one, I would like to know my options as far as the wideband and its benefits.

Thanks for the reply. I read the info on the unit and it seems very complete. What if any extras did you buy and for the most important question, how does it hook into the engine management system? It seems like I saw the show Two Guys Garage use something like this, but they went over it so fast I didn't quite hear how it worked.

i didn't buy any extras but i will be buying the boost sensor and egt sensor & harnesses so i can have complete datalogging
i got the bundle that came with a screen :)

it wires directy into the ecu for datalogging of tps rpm etc and for powering up
it has it's own harness for the 02 sensor

it doesn't improve a vehicle at all
it helps you make sure you don't blow it up ;)
by having a screen there that tells you your exact air fuel, it's an extreme comfort thing :)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................ darn, I was hoping it would take the place of the original o2 sensor and improve on the data and relay it to the fuel management system and run an even better a/f ratio and timing system. I guess if you have the data then maybe you can adjust things somewhere to make it run closer to optimum, but that is what I originally thought the wideband sensor was supposed to do.


DDMCSE, I havent' checked to see how the screw is set. I just put it in and then the plastic deal on top that was originally on the Supra afm. Does adjusting the screw help with anything? Just curious.

Yes...its just knowing whats going on with the motor. Which allows you to improve the motor in the future, And is also very very helpful for mods and trouble shooting. A piggyback fuel computer i think is what your looking for...It adjusts the air meter/o2 sensor signal to set the air/fuel at whatever you want. Im not too sure...because ive never used one tho. Just researched em up.

the screw allows un-metered air to pass through which would effect the a/f mixture , which might help your rich mix

I looked inside the meter and it looks like the stock screw is still in its unaltered place. It sticks out about a quarter of an inch but leaves most of the lower opening open. I notice that I do have a problem with the airfilter adapter though. It blocks some of the airflow at the corners of the afm. It was the adapter for the original supra afm, but since the opening for the Lexus afm is larger, the corners get blocked some. It is open at the corners but not a straight shot there. I guess I will have to some how pound the corners out to open that up.
