car stalls out
I recently purchased a 90 turbo, it starts fine and sound great however if i rev it up over about 1500 rpms and let out on the throtle it stalls out. If you slowly let the throtle down it will maintain normal idle. also when i get it on the road it has no power only about 25 mphs floored. I took it to a shop and had a diagnosis done, they said all the electronics check out and they couldnt pin point the real issue. I need some advise on what i should check next all my fluids are great and the transmition is shifting okay. Also im looking for a real good shop manual on the car anyone have any prefferences if so let me know. thanks.

does the car begin to overheat arfter you drive for a while? Is you CAT cloged up? Does it make any sounds besides the normal motor sounds? Any more info might make this easier to help you with.

The engine dosent overheat at all, and i already thought of the cat and chopped it so it cant be that. there are no unnormal noises comming from the engine or tranny. the only thing that came up was a code for the neutral start switch or a/c switch. but after removing a little atf because it was high, and reseting the codes it went away. And I checked the neutral start switch and it is lined up perfectly. Other than that there are no codes stored.

Have you performed a cylinder compression test on the engine yet? If not I'd start there. Post your results and I will interpret them for you. Replaced the spark plugs/wires yet? I usually test spark plug wires before replacing but since there is a nice aftermarket for an 87-92 supra it would be worthwhile to just upgrade.
Order the Toyota Supra Repair Manual from your local Toyota dealership, should be around $100. Well worth every penny. |

Compression results
Okay I finally got around to a compression check and it seems as if #3,4, and 6 are shot they only came up to about 60 psi and #'s 1,2, and 5 were hitting 145 psi no problem. Not being an expert or anything but i guess i need to replace the rings. But my next question is meaning that 3 of the pistons are shot should I just replace those three or should i play it safe and spend the extra money on all six of them? Because i have never had to replace rings in any vehichle before are there anythings that i should consider when purchasing rings. Any info would be great thanks!

Check your intercooler and intercooler pipes and all the pipes after the turbo too. Somtimes they leak and its not apparent untill you start making some boost pressure. And yes i would say you need a rebuild and/or a new HG. Start saving now
