Default '87 Turbo puking water. Help find where!

Okay, I have an 87 that is puking coolant from the rear of the head area. I think I have it narrowed down, but I'm not sure what the part is exactly.

It's on the passenger side head, very rear, between the head and firewall. A water hose (Heater hose?) runs right in front of it, so it's hard to get a good look in there.

My GF poured water in the rad, and I watched it run out from here, but what do I need to replace? Is there a water neck or pipe or something back there, or is the head itself cracked? Whatever is back there, can I replace it without pulling the head? That would be nasty....

Thanks in advance guys! This is my girl's ride, and has to be running next week at all costs. Whatever it takes, must be done. And I have to be able to take this car across country in 1 month!

Default I had the same problem once

What I found is there is a pipe manifold back around the back if it is a 7MGE it runs around the outside of the motor and at the back of the motor on the passenger side there is a nipple sticking out with a plug on it that thing begins to leak and sprays coolant down onto the exhaust manifold and it takes forever for the smell to go away. what you do is get some small radiator hose that is the right size and put it on there and plug the end of it with something my 87 someone already did this and pluged it with a spark plug. It looks like crap but works till you find somthing better.

kwnate: sorry, can't get a camera back there. Right up against the firewall, and a heater hose blocks it.

If you follow the top of the left hand "hump" of the cam cover towards the rear of the car, at the end of the hump just past where you can see, right up against the firewall. Maybe a manifold pipe of some kind, I don't know. It looked like something shiny and metallic. I was wondering if anyone knew what was on that side of the head from pulling it off. I guess I will just have to pull the cam cover to find out.

Is it the hose coming from the center of the two cam covers at the very back or behind the exhaust manifold?

It appears that its on the very rear of the cam covers. Not sure what's supposed to be back there, i've never had the head off. Definitely nowhere near the exhaust manifold.

I've removed the accordian intake pipe, and the turbo heat shield trying to find the leak. It's definitely nowhere you can actually get to in the engine.

kwnate: Is the hose you are speaking of connected to the cam covers, or the head itself?

** 'Doh! Just thought about that question a minute. Cam cover wouldn't have any water running through it, that would be the head itself...
