Body Fill?
alright, im getting annoyed at not having side strips.. and i dont want to pay that much for good ones.. and the ones i have are kind of.. half assed. anyways, i was thinking of filling it in with body fill? whats your opinion on this stuff? any idea what it would cost to fill it without using body fill and using actual metal? i think i would leave the mouldings at the very front and the one that goes around the back.

If you think It looks bad now, wait until you do a half ass job filling it and having it crack and fall out down the road.
|
dude what are you planning to use? chewing gum? wax? to fill that up?
your best bet is to use bondo or fiberglass, i say use fiberglass to fill it up, then use bondo to smooth it up top you gonna have that shaved look, so please dont do it half-assed trust me doing it right, and sweating cuz of the hard work is better than other pple sweating you for the half-assed job |
ok so if i go fiberglass, wont this be exspensive? any idea? trust me, i dont want it to be half assed.
|
if you dont want it to be half assed then your gonna have to pony up for some sheet metal work. Cutting sheet metal, welding it in place, grinding it off and skim coating with body filler is the proper way to do this job...and trust me thats gonna be a heck of a lot more expensive than just buying mouldings.
Also, have you ever seen a Supra with the mouldings filled? thye look wierd to me, and there are places like where the bumbers meet the fenders that have to be figured out for transitions...Im pretty sure you dont want to try this mod |
ya, then what r u gonna do about painting the bondo/fiberglass? 16+ yrs. of color that might be a little faded might be hard to match.
i wouldnt do it.. |
Frequent visits to local Junk Yards got me decent replacements. Took a few months of treasure hunting, but I believe the molding look is best for the car.
|
yea.. btw it was painted in the last year or two.
|
there you go more reason to jus go with the fiberglass, and paint it
it'll jus cost about 20 buck for a can, and 5 bucks for a spraypaint can, weezls idea is good but jus way to expensive and meticulous. no diss, but the fiberlgass and bindo is more reasonable, less work, less money |
:umno: I beg to differ...he said it been painted recently and thats all the more reason to just get the right moulding set. If you bondo the trim spots up you will wreck the paint job, your rattle can paint won't match and the body filler WILL crack and fall off, you will end up with a shitty looking half assed paint job. But hey, its your car...go ahead and wreck it if you want, I dont have to look at it! :outahere: |
