What would you do....
I havent been around for a while, but now im going to get back into a supra project. Heres my delima....
I currently own a 5 speed 90 supra targa top turbo. It runs great and I have $1800 into the project. It has 140,000 miles on it and is all factory, no mods whatsoever. The problem is: it has a salvaged title and in order to get a new "prior salvaged title" it needs to be finished up. As of right now the driver side headlight does not open due to it rubbing the hood, the brake lights dont work, and the master cylindar does not hold fluid more than 24 hours. I havent fixed the title yet into my name so when I do I am looking at a $200 penalty and I cant get the previous owner to file for a lost title cause he was an agent and now he isnt with the car dealer that sold the car. Now heres the other part to the story..... I found a 87 n/a automatic hard top supra with 45,000 original miles for $1800! There are some scuffs here and there on the body, but over all its a clean car on the outside. The interior has some stains on the cloth, but its complete. It needs a tune up so im looking at some money after purchase to get it running in tip top shape. Now heres my question.... Do I buy the 87 and trasplant the 90 into it, or dont buy the 87, fix the 90 and drive the 90. Oh and which ever I do the supra I have will become a daily driver once finished. |
Transplant...

i would have to agree with him^^

Go with the better body!
Like most things in life, go with the one that has the better body. Because the "hardware" for the car is interchangable...however body rust just gets worse, and if it is on a "non-removable" piece, then it can get costly to fix.
I opt for the transplant too, assuming that your 90 is in better shape. |
get the 87 the other is a salvage it will always be battered goods

More importantly, which doghouse is in better shape! (thats the big part left if you took every single nut, bolt and part off). Because you can change whatever between the cars. I would say def get an extra car and transplant. Then you have 2 sets of parts to work with, And if you ever planning on selling it, the salvage title wont show up, itll be a regular na supra, also might make insurance cheaper too lol. And then you can part out whatever you dont want on ebay. But yah, Just put the parts on the 87, namely the turbo motor/trans, diff, assoiated engine parts, and tail lights/front bumber if you like em better than the 86 style. IMO, the 86 square tail lights are cool looking, But I like the front bumper on the 89+. Im selling my 86 na 5sp hardtop too...for 1500...lol. Thats a better deal! It has hardly any rust and never crashed, so no crash damage. Interior sucks tho...

I never thought about the salvage title thing. I could sell the 87 out right if I decided to sell it.
Thanks for all the help, im going to get the money together and get the 87. I will put most of the 90 stuff on it though. :) |
yes i agree go with the 90...if u drive the 87 u will realize that u shuldve gotten the turbo. and stick. believe me i have an 88 turbo...it has its problems now..but only 83k miles on it...and i wuldnt trade it for anything. well..maybe a new vette or sumthing.
