Redline Problem

Hey.. this might be a dumb question but does anybody know why when my car is at WOT, it wont redline.. it goes to 5500 then shifts. Ya, it's an automatic

Supra2NR 07-23-2006 06:13 AM

bcoz its an auto, its factory tuned to avoid any dangers to the engine. unless your car is equipped with overdrive, you cant redline your car,

unless you drifting on snow,
my cadi had an ovedrive, but when i was sliding all over th place, i had it redlining at 2nd till i break the drift

Ummm...have you tried shifting it manually?

frostburn 07-23-2006 04:54 PM

phh man... your car shouldnt even reach 5500 mine dont... its also an auto... i havent past 5000 on mine and ive gone over 240

cars4me89 07-23-2006 05:14 PM

you've gone over 240? do you think that putting it into the sport mode on the auto trans would help it rev higher?

frostburn 07-23-2006 05:15 PM

it does and also i never take pwr off

sharkn 07-23-2006 05:22 PM

you can redline it in 1st but it automaticly shifts out of 2nd if you do it manually

cars4me89 07-23-2006 05:26 PM

dont you think that might fry up your trans keeping it in that

frostburn 07-23-2006 08:08 PM

yah kms not miles and did it yesterday

damdog05 07-23-2006 10:37 PM

are you serious...that pretty much 150 mph. thats ridiculous. whered you do it?

frostburn 07-23-2006 10:54 PM

theres an abandoned highway near my place... its a very long straightish road theres a few curves but nothing insane yah.. it was very hard to control lol and my breaks squealed like a bish as my car was trying to do a tail whip... but i maintained it.... ill just think twice before doing it again is all lol

sharkn 07-23-2006 11:42 PM

150? man..you must have been moving wanna race for rides?

frostburn 07-24-2006 02:29 AM

my car broke i wont be racing for awhile... lol gf has to gimme a ride to work... lol bye.

damdog05 07-24-2006 02:52 AM

is it correct to assume you have a turbo?

Isphius 07-24-2006 05:01 AM

my car goes 130 with power to spare, i just run out of rpms (6000 ish). So im sure an auto with a higher 3rd or OD gear could do it fine. And mines an NA. And 240kms is 144 mph.

Supra2NR 07-24-2006 06:05 AM

how many mph is 240 kph, cuz i did 145mph b4
that was scary, my hands were sweating after i stopped

nevermind, i wasnt reading the other posts
but, same thing happend car fishtails as you try to break
i had a stock 200 hp engine when i did this,
i had brembo slotted brakes tho, that kinda gave me more insurance

Isphius 07-24-2006 12:05 PM

I didnt even try using the brakes. lol. You shouldnt really use them going that fast unless its an emergency...in which case your probably screwed anyway. They will literally melt at that speed. Unless you have really good brakes, Like giant 15 inch rotors and ceramic pads that wont melt. I just let it slow down to 100 by rolling and then i just slowed to the speed limit with the brakes and i didnt notice much fade tho. I stopped a neon(i didnt wana tell anyone i was driving a neon) from 70-0 and the brake fade was horrible. I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor, and the wheels didnt even lock up, and i almost crashed into traffic. thats how soft they got.

frostburn 07-24-2006 12:23 PM

lol, well yah its a turbo rebuilt engine k&n airfilter full 3" turbo back exaust T70 turbo although im lookin to replace that with a T04p turbo my car was boosting 23 psi but i broke my boost controler... so im running maybe 10... umm cut dump tube... cant remember all atm if anyone knows anything else i should upgrade lemme know... oh yah... koyo aluminum 30% cooler rad and ported exaust manifold.. think thats all... hmmm anyways later

frostburn 07-24-2006 12:25 PM

oh yah and 750 injectors 1000s are to big atm :P

yup, brembo slotted big brakes, with 4 piston calipers, and hawk pads,
works like a charm, stops me on a dime

maybe a little to strong, cuz it caused me to tailspin,
i had front end damage twice bcuz of factory brakes failing me
so that why i opted for the best

frostburn 07-25-2006 11:55 AM

where can i pick up a set? and how much will it run me?

cars4me89 07-25-2006 03:09 PM

ya.. where did you buy the big brake kit from?

frostburn 07-26-2006 03:47 AM

thanks they look cool... but no price i can see.. =/

Supra2NR 07-26-2006 02:36 PM

this wasnt in my supra,
but the rotors costs me 300 a pair,,
calipers about 275 ,
pads 75

about 600 somewhat dollars after everything was said and done
i got from my shop here, they specialize in this type of things
the money wasnt even an issue, well it was

but its my LIFE vs. MONEY
and i chose to live longer
its really worth it

frostburn 07-26-2006 05:29 PM

thanks alot man... well im waitin on my aftermarket fuel filter and metal head gasket so... after all thats said and done i will definitly buy amazing breaks... i warped my roters from stopping 200+ all the time lol thanks again though

Isphius 07-27-2006 04:02 AM

OEM size/style rotors should be fine as long as your nice to them...Dont ride them to long when your going fast, etc. Mine are still fine and ive done several 100+(mph) stops with them lol. The only reason id say get the big brakes is beacause they wont melt stopping from high speed, But ive never done it in a sitch where i would need to stop that fast. But it is better to be safe than sorry(ie dead) so shelling out the money is worth it, If youy think youll need em. Im gona try the ebay 88 rotors brakes/EBC pads, ill let everyone know how they work
