Low-budget sleeper
How can my friend and I make his 3rd gen Supra beat a 240whp Turbo Talon (fwd) by a long shot?
I'm thinking nitrous and electric cutout. I hear the 7MGE is a strong motor, so it should be able to hold a hefty shot... I hope. Let me know what is needed to do- BTW, the motor was swapped in and the owner said the "new" motor had 30k on it.... THanks, |
u wanna beat that talon?
first of all our cars are too heavy to compare with that 2ndly, u put a shot of nos in your engine without any other mods you might as well say goodbye to that new 30k engine new crankshaft new pulley new cams maybe a new clutch a fidanza lighweight flywheel new injectors if you wanna run nos (i suggest, 75 shot wet) forged pistons with coating new rods a metal head gasket (most important) i think those would be enough and you will beat that talon by a long shot |
better idea:

Very smart idea! Aha

I will agree on most of the parts, But you dont need cams pulleys or the flywheel. They may help, But trying to fit the low-budget thing ha. And if only a 75 shot, the bottom end would hold up fine, just need the mhg. If more, id say build the bottom end. And remember you need traction :) dont just need to mod the motor. This is a talon tsi im assuming so its AWD and about 1500lbs give or take lighter. (im exhagerating). |
I also forgot to mention, Get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and a BAMF fuel pump. Then youll be set.
|
well i was jus you know
hoping for the best but preparing for the worst he wanted a sleeper, so no turbo, no exhaust, nothing that makes any sound, or any showing outside the hood i jus thought he would need every part that he can to beat that car those cars are crazy, i wouldnt race em, but awd and weighs less than half our car? thats at least 1500 lbs so which translates to : he will beat you by at least a second and a half |
They only weigh about 2500 ish. Not quite half, But sure as hell not as heavy. But im sure with a 75-100 shot of nos and the motor ups to handle it, He should be pretty well off as long as the talon isnt modded a shitload. And i just read that its front wheel drive, So it must not be a tsi...oh well. That means you will have the traction advantage instead of the other way around. lol.

TSI talons are not fast. i found out last night riding in my friend's firebird formula. he beat that talon tsi by about the same distance he does my stock n/a auto supra when we race. what i am saying is it will be a close race.
the talon that we raced was pretty much stock except his BOV. he was also manual. is your friends supra auto or manual? |
onee thing i didnt see on the list is an intake filter, but it may make a sucking noise so i dont know if your friend will want that.
|
my bad,
i thought an intake is a default mod mandatory for everybody to get so thats why i ddnt bother i did overlook that ddnt i? lol |
I used to think that a Talon TSI was fwd and a Talon TSi was AWD. Apparently they are TSi and TSiAWD. His is a TSi (seen the emblem) and is def. fwd.
The MK3 is an automatic. We were looking for this project to be less than a grand. It doesnt look like that is possible unless these parts are much cheaper than I expect. This Talon has the capabilities to run mid-high 13 sec 1/4mi times but I bet he cant get better than low 14s due to front trash. Oh well, I guess I'll just break out the ol' American muscle to do the trick. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...8/HPIM0075.jpg |
thats funny those cars are in my hitlist,
cars that i want to beat, its kinda my own championship and i plan to start a photo album of every car that became my 3!T(H after i get my turbo im gonna start posting pics every week of the cars that succumed after me and yea sorry for the bad news, i dunt think theres any way around this unless you can make your supra weigh a scant 1600 lbs i dont think a grand can make your supra beat a talon |
Im sure it could....But im sure that trans am or camaro would have a much easier time as they both come stock with 300+ hp to the wheels. (i know, my uncle ran his on a dyno bone stock except new tires and got 302 hp) And the cars are advertised as having 305 hp...BS! more like 340.
|
its a v8 right? off course its gonna have those horses
but those cars should be running at least 400 but that jus my opinion tho |
Yes, they are 5.7L v8s. Or ls1s, as they are called. Im just saying gm advertises them at much lower power #s then they actually make. And no, they dont need 400 hp, lol. They are very fast cars. You have to ride in one. They have a perfect powerband and they just feel beautiful under acceleration.
|
i have been in one
in a 95 camaro, 455 hps with nos crazy ride |
Thats an lt1. But 455 hp is still nice. 97-02 camaros and trans ams are the ls1, which is a badass motor. I would like to get my hands on one.

It's Simple!
Well you wanted a sleeper that would beat that Tallon, well I suggest simply paying him $500 to go less than you, and then use the other $500 to put a cold air intake onto your N/A.
3700lbs Vs. 2600lbs.....yeah, he kinda has the advantage. However you DO have about 40lbs in sound dampening throughout your car. And you could lighten things up by bolting a new seat into your drivers side (The power one weighs ALOT...over 100lbs aparently). There are MANY things that you can do to lighten your car up. Next you could go with the cold air intake, it has been said, but I am saying it again. After that, you may want to run 50% 130 octane aviation fuel (Just go to a smaller airport, and ask to buy some of their fuel for a cessna 152, or 172...they both use the gas I am talking about), and then 50% NORMAL fuel....NOT PREMIUM. Your octane should balance around 103...or so. With a slightly lighter car, with a cold air intake (And they really don't make that much of a sucking noise), and running 103 octane fuel......you will at least keep up with him, and thats all you need till your longer legs kick in....we have top end!!! |
