A good paint job?

Hey does anyone know what a decent paint job goes for on a MkIII Supra, I want to paint the one Im getting black, would it be cheaper if I did all the sanding and priming myself?

yes, if you do the prep work it will be cheaper. Prep work is very important to the final product, so if you're inexperienced I'd leave it to the pros. Every little defect in the prep work will show through in black very well.

Are you going from some other color to black?

Most likely yes.

if your planning to do this jus once
it will probly be cheaper jus to bring your car to a shop with a professional

but if your doing this as a learning experience, go for it
get a compressor, sander, belt sander, primer spray gun
and everything that goes with it
it might sound costly, but you wont be paying for labor and you have a chance to learn something new

I have all that stuff came with the compressor I bought two years ago.

lucky bastard,,, lol just kidding

there you go, if i had those things my supra would have a new paintjob by now
got for it

do sum art with it too if you can, a custom paintjob, make it standout out of the rest

and trust me , when pple ask
it gives you that proud feeling inside when you say " I DID IT MYSELF"
have fun with the project

Toyotafanatic 08-02-2006 05:13 AM

Yea, thanks, but is there a book that I can buy that shows good techniques?

Supra2NR 08-02-2006 04:21 PM

there's not really much to it
if your gonna do sum art, its a matter of creativity, and a laser level
if you plan to do both side

and the painting part
jus put light coats ,
go slow

your better off putting light coats and going back 10 times
than putting a thick one then dripping then having to do it again

jus remember that, cuz i made that mistake so many time when i did my first paint job, cuz i was impatient

o yeah that another thing, be really patient with it, dont touch it to xee if its dry,
somehow thats how humans are wired tho, we are curious so even tho i knew it was still wet i put my finger and touched it anyways (how STUPID)

Toyotafanatic 08-03-2006 12:11 AM

Alright, I've painted a dirtbike before, pretty much same technique, but Im pretty good at being patient, but I know what its like touching wet paint even though you know its wet.:)

Supra2NR 08-05-2006 06:48 AM

dont you feel stupid after that, in your head you know you shouldnt touch it cuz its wet , but your body tells you to touch it anyways, jus to see
even tho you know it gonna ruin the paint job and you have to do it again
i cant help it, i always do it at least once every painjob

hopefully i will grow out of it
