Best supra YEAR ??
I was wondering which year supra turbo is most realiable with the least problems? I just got a 1987 supra turbo with 93k from the 2nd owner and it is bone stock and was very surprised how smooth it ran; the only problems he had was head gasket & fixed. How much faster is the 1jz? Also what turbo upgrade is good for a 1987? I heard a greddy one, not sure which 1, some people say hks. I don't want to get a turbo booster; just because i don't want to blow the engine since this is my 1st manual car.
anyways thanks in advance for your replies |

well i love my 88 turbo even tho it makes me angry constantly..and sum good turbo upgardes..small ones..a ct26hybrid turbo and abetter one would be liek a t3/t4 hybrid and if ur plannin on puttin a lot of power into ur car a t4. and a boost controller wont blow ur engine..just dont boost it high unless ur engine is ready for it. retorque ur head down and maybe even swap it for a metal one, but machine it flat 1st. as long as ur engine is tightly sealed and running well u wont blow it by boosting higher.

Reliability is irrelevant since they are 95% all the same...mechanically probably more like 99.5% the same
The only appreciable differences are cosmetic and thats way to subjective to give you a valid answer...the only right answer is "whatever one you like"

out of context. that's a completely wrong statement.
there is no "best" year. It's all a matter of preference. 86-early89 supras had a 6M crank, and spun higher from factory 89+ supras had a true 7M and while had a lower rev limit, they were more properly balanced throughout the rpm range. take that for what you will. It's up to you as to which you prefer. They're all the same basic car. |

I have an 87 mk111 turbo and I really do enjoy it, but I would prefer a mk 1V with the 320 hp and 6 speed tranny, but just wishing so long as we are only talking supras.
