What swap?
Hi, everyone. I am new here and I am interested in buying a 88 supra 7M-GE 5sp from a friend I know. The Head gasket blown on the motor and was pulled and resealed and has been sitting ever since, He was planning on turboing the engine and has a turbo, manifold and turbo ECM. The cams are rusted from sitting without the valve cover on and I was cant even find replacement cams for it other than racing cams for $750 a piece.
Reading though this forum I found alot of information that made me realize I would need to start from scratch. I found a complete 1jz with manual trans, wiring harness and ECM for $1800 plus S+H. And also found a complete 7M-GTE just motor for $1100 plus S+H. Wich swap would be the best to do? Is the 1jz as easily upgradable as the GTE? How similar are the 1jz and GTE other than the single and twin turbos? Also how difficult is the 1jz swap? Please no "Do a search" replies, I am not new to forums and have already done research, but I cant really find the answers I am looking for. Thanks for any help in advance. |

the 1jz can take a little more abuse than the 7m
but the 1jz has poor aftermarket support you can always twin the 7m
