I Am Pissed
i really thought i could bring my car back
i thought it will come back kickin i jus talkd to the guys at my shop originally i came there to get prices and plan what i want to get done with my car to those that dunt know my car has a bad engine overrevved it, and threw my rods now the rebuild plan was going to consist of pistons crankshaft rods then they told if was gonna race my car again i cant go half assed so might as well get the heads machine, retorqued, and a new headgasket job with a MHG rather than jus getting my car running and then going back to get the rest of the job done what made this more senseless was when they told me im not gonna get the horses that i want with my n/a so there will be no point to doing all this work to an engine that wont give me the horses that i want and it got worse when they said all this work that i want was easily going to fly around 5000 dollars , and i will still jus have an N/A car basically they told me im better off finding a turbo car, then start from there and get all the work that i want done to the turbo i got a close friend of mine selling me a supra turbo hardtop 87 for 3000 with 102000 miles i think its a good deal im gonna test his car at the races tomorow night and b4 you say anything yes i know i know, you were right weezy so yea, sad day for my car, and for me already put somewhat a lot of work on it already that jus makes it worst |
Just buy a new turbo engine. It ranges from about 1k-2k for a complete JDM one. Still cheaper than buying another Supra and/or rebuilt motor.
|
the closest 7mgte engine
from me is about 500 miles away i have went to at least two dozens shops in the area and other cities have called at least 60 places they either their prices are jacked up or the engine is busted , or imcomplete and i cant have a jdm engine in here i dunt have enuff money to make it run legally, or get it to pass emissions in here thats why the whole process is going to fly around 5 grand |
if you do get your friends supra what r u gonna do with the one you have now?
parts car? swap engines? sell it? |
keep it, save it for my project
or find sumbody who wants it if not im thinking of making it into a straight up show car then i can use the turbo for racing |
It's probably further than 500 miles from you but I know where there is a 7m-gte for $450 but it is missing the turbo, not a big loss there cause aftermarket is better anyway. A friend of mine has it and said it is a strong motor. Its in a wrecked 86.5 which means it has the 6m crank unless whoever owned it put in a newer motor. It's from a wrecking yard and does come with a 30 day guarantee, not much but it's better than nothing. Pm me if interested.

see thats the problem
i cant travel far cuz i dunt have the money for a truck to pay gas for the truck and then the engine does not have a turbo? hows that gonna be any good to me thats one more thing that makes me pissed i dont have time to look for missing parts and the money to buy em dont get frustrated with me, i know you guys are trying to help im jus really upset with this situation i was really looking forward to be racing with my car again |
see you guys gotta understand
im really a "car person" to the extreme all the pple close to me tell me that its my personality and i took the saying "your car is an extension of your personality" to another level in person, im a really quiet person even when im mad, i dunt say anything i let my car do the talking if the guy sitting next to me said sumthing i dont like or decides to piss me off i wont say anything to him but i will pull a hard drift to the left so either he hits his head on sumthing or he gets spitted out of the car thats jus how i am when my supra went down, man,,, i was jus mad, and sad at the same time all i want right now is to get back at racing plus i cant make any money right now, i dunt have a car |
Buy your friends turbo. You will be glad you did. Then if it need rebuilding, you can get the HP you are looking for. I don't understand why you would want to buy a used engine. You are still going to have to go through it and replace all the seals and while you are at it, you maight as well check the bearings, then you maight as well check the cylinders and pistons for wear, then you might as well have the head checked and probably rebuilt.........so, to me you are better off rebuilding what you have. Unless there is a hole in the block.
My daughter has my old 87 N/A Supra. I rebuilt it and each time I drive it, I wish my turbo had that kind of lower end torque. It just really runs out on the upper end. I think more compression and better breathing would turn the N/A into a nice drifting car. Lighten it up and stiffen the suspension up and have fun...... or sell it. That would give you some money to put more power to your new TURBO car! :) Russ |
If you really want to drive your car, you can get a re-ring kit for about 300$. It coems with all bearings, gaskets, and a new set of rings. Did you take your old motor apart yet? If it doesnt need any machine work, thats all you need. Otherwise search around for a new crank and a set of rods, or even just the number of rods you need that are bad, And you have an essentially brand new bottom half, And a good hg. And then just get arp or brand new head bolts and torque them down good, And you should be good for a LOT of miles.

Just letting you know, its not hard to find a used engine thats running right...I got mine for $1000 shipped from PA with a 90 day warranty. Havent replaced anything but a crank angle sensor. Compression checked out great. I got mine from Ebay/JDMexchange.com. It arrived with 2 bad plugs and a dime sized hole in the valve cover. Easily swapped with my bad motor, along with other hoses and misc. things they cut off. The install (no hookup) cost me $1000 dollars, its usually $800, but it was 1000 due to them swapping out the plug/valve cover/preventive maintanence parts that were good on my old motor. I almost know how you feel, but a RWD coupe with an NA 3.0 liter is not exactly useless. You can build it for auto x's, road courses, drifting, etc. If this isn't your daily driver than get the turbo, but keep in mind with rebuilding your NA you'd have a fresh motor with not much serious shit that can go wrong vs. having a 19 year old car with a tired motor...If you're daily driving the car, do some good bang for the buck bolt ons, get a coilover kit, some sticky tires, restore it some, and you have a fun daily driver...this is assuming that the car is a 5spd. |
car is a 5spd
problem is, its hard to pass emisions in chicago i think if you fail it completely the car can be junkd by law ruled undrivable on the streets i cant afford that anymore i know the guy that im buying it from raced him a few times whooped my ass all the time (aint afraid to admit it) everybody loses trust me guys, if i had the money no car would be useless to me if i had the money and time my car would have had a 2jz by now but i dunt and im jus running out of time |
Just rebuild the motor. Its not the end of the world when you spin some bearings. When i got my monte carlo (my first car, when i was 16, keep in mind) it had a rod knock from 2 spun bearings, It needed entirely new heads cause they were cracked, crank and 2 rods destroyed, And i had the motor out, found parts, rebuilt, and in by myself in 2 months, With ported and bigger valve heads(done by nick manarino at modern performance). And then a few days after that i changed it to a regular carb and vaccum distributor and put headers in it, again by myself(also added about 100 hp). And it seems like you have a garage or space available to keep your car, I did all this in the dirt in my yard over the winter. So im sure you can get that motor out and change some bearings. So dont go thinking your car is "TKO" just cause you have a few motor problems.

problem is
i have no more space in my garage since my dad got hit with his car and it already has taken the garage space secondly, if im gonna rebuild the engine, i dunt wanna do it halfassed and jus do enough to get it running third problem, even if i go do everything that i want to do with the car i wont get the horses that i want , no like by jus getting a turbo car and then get the head machined, retourqued, new HG thats why, trust me i dunt wanna let go of my supra but i am running out of time so in my current situation getting the turbo car is my best options |
Yes, But im just sayng, Your not doing it halfasses if you rebuild the motor. Your rebuilding it. Then its essentially a new motor. It will have new motor compression and lifespan. Then if you get the head rebuilt or a new head, The kit comes with a new gasket, Toruqe it down good Then you have a brand new motor, with brand new motor power and fuel efficiency, that will last 100k miles with no problem. Who cares if it doesnt get the power you want, You can drive your car and it wont break down. Even if you get the turbo car, The same thing could happen. And then your in the same situation with 2 cars. Work on getting the car solid first, Then go for the "power your looking for", whatever that may be. Whether it be a turbo swap, supercharger, nitrous...jet engine, whatever you wana do.

the thing is
if im gonna rebuld the motor im gonna use the money i was going to pay for the turbo if i jus rebulid that motor im gonna be setback for months i got bills to pay and i need to make money with my car 6 of my boys already left me behind sucks they have turbos, this is what i meant by i dunt have time i gotta get back to racing quick |
If you want to make money with your car you dont really have a choice then to fix it. At least you know what is and isnt broken. How are you sure the turbo isnt going to be effed up in some way?
|
cuz when i get the turbo
thats when im gonna get all the work done to that engine so it wont end up the same way |
